He was a very nice guy that encouraged me to ski further and farther on the few occasions we got to talk.

Had this guys picture on my wall as a kid. The famous Aspen Extreme scene. Coombs, Plake, Hatrup and Schmidt were the guys I looked to.

I meet him and chilled with him in LA grave 2 or 3 seasons, I knew Chad. doug was one of the most humble enthusiast God of skiing. meeting him and hanging in town is a life long Joyess memories of my life

Thanks for posting. Very hard for me to watch as I chatted to him at the bottom of the Vallee Blanche a couple of days before he headed back down to La Grave. I was taking my father down for his 70th. I very nearly missed the birth of my daughter who just made Level III PSIA at 21 because I was at a Steep Camp. Cheers!

So crazy that this came into my feed and I read your post. You were in my group at that steep camp that season, and I remember you had to leave early for your daughter’s birth. My daughter is 25 now and became an instructor as well and skied with me in La Grave a couple seasons ago. You may remember my friend Jim as well. So glad you’re doing well. Tom Kennedy.

Bummer. I started skiing in 87’, Doug was one of the guys in powder magazine that I tried to emulate. I’ll pour some out at the mountain this weekend.

I used to see Doug at Teton Village Sports, he was a really good guy! Truly legendary
