Douglas Rushkoff is an absolute gem! It would be interesting to see you explore Western occult philosophies and Douglas would be a great person to dip the toe with. Then Mitch Horowitz next!

@@AlexanderDivineEmcee Oops I meant Douglas! As in Rushkoff. Just edited my comment to correct that. He’s the “normie” friend of many modern occultists. I feel like sometimes people who are unfamiliar with that stream of spirituality need someone like Douglas to vouch for it, so he’d be a good gateway for Rainn into that scene.

Douglas Rushkoff is the great explainer, I'd listen to him talk about commercial flooring. I remember reading his Media Virus in a McDonald's back in '97.

It will be interesting to see how many views this episode will get. The conversation is BRILLIANT but it talks about topics that would encourage people to go against consumerism and trust eachother and spend more actual time together. I don't think the algorithms like that. But you get a "like" from me at least. Absolutely brilliant 😊

Borrow a drill…. and let the nightmare become the dream. That was beautiful, and it’s making me seriously examine my own hesitancy to borrow and share for fear of being indebted.

As a kid i would wonder why we don't still use the bartering method of exchanging goods. If i have something you need and you have something i need why can't we just help each other? I love that idea and his elaboration on why is it so bad to "owe" someone something? The thought process behind why we have cars and currency is crazy to think about. Anytime i tell people i think we should be able to work less and live more they assume it's laziness. I will work harder than most people i know on things I'm passionate about. But why feel the need to work our entire lives just to hopefully retire and be able to have those experiences we put off for so long?

Like anything in the world It depends on how one uses it. One can write a beautiful story with a pencil or they can cause the most damage by using it as a way to bring someone down. All perspective.

Looking good, guys. lol 🤣 This was such a profound episode. My husband and I are about to read Team Human together (funnily enough, after I just started reading a book about Humanism). These two little introverts are going to try and put these principles into practice inside our little community now. Thanks for the inspiration!

Rainn, you and your guests often make me cry 😭 with realization of what is and what could be. Also, what path I'm on and if I'm on the correct path for me or need to blaze a new one or 20 along the way as I grow mentally and spiritually. YOUR PODCAST IS A GIFT for me. Truly, thank you. ♥️♥️♥️

This is such an important conversation. It gives me hope. One thing I noticed is my mind went kind of negative with the borrowing support network…I think of “what happens when the person breaks the drill?” and all the complications and having to create systems and rules and agreements. It becomes so involved. And maybe that’s the way.

I love this podcast so much, and I listen to most episodes but I would really love to hear the guest speak more. I feel like the flow is so interrupted when there's so much more to be said.

I have to say that it’s completely possible to borrow a drill and build community with your neighbors. I did it with my neighbors in Long Beach,Ca we all borrowed and hung out outside for a little bit almost daily. Shated things for the kids all the time, trick or treated together etc. I then moved to NC and we’re not AS close as we were in SoCal but I know all my neighbors we help each other. The kids all play in each others yards. Even when my car was dead one neighbor came with tools and my husband said hey of you every need help with any technological come get me. Totally possible! And my kids all are growing up with this mentality too. Even in 2024

This guy has spent a lot of money to fill his head and to make himself look poor. While I had hoped he was fun to listen to, being a fan of the office, I was disappointed to find out how disconnected and deluted his mind and grasp of reality is.
