What I learned last week, when I tried the 18 hr fast and breaking my fast w mackeral or sardines 3 times per week… light exercise 1 day and then eating about 50-90 carbs a day before 5pm is that 1. It improved my heart burn, no need for meds 2. Lost 4 lbs. 3. Being fat overweight unhealthily big is merely a food addiction. When I saw all the comments about people saying Dr Boz has an eating disorder I thought oh my word…It’s us fat people that have the eating disorder. We aren’t meant to eat all the concoctions of addictive artificial foods we’ve created. We are meant to eat extremely modestly most often and indulge like never or very super seldom. Food control and simply shifting paradigms, changing your mind and deciding you don’t like food like that is profoundly effective. It’s truth to the core. Not getting into that headspace will make the journey to weight loss a mission instead of a landslide. Food truly is a deadly addiction.

When I first keto adapted, I found getting enough salt, magnesium glycinate and potassium citrate powder made a huge difference. If my potassium goes low, I feel awful and tired. All these are vital. I felt awful for 3 months until I was able to get that info. The Art and Science of low Carb living by Dr. Steven Phinney was so helpful as it gave actual amounts one needs to aim for these minerals.

I am 75 years old. Started intermittent fasting (mostly 18/6 sometimes OMAD) July 20, 2022 with Keto type eating. I was able to toss BP meds in one month!!! After 20 years on BP meds-(was sometimes super high even on meds in presence of white coats). 🤪. This low BP is AMAZING to me. Lost an average of 1 1/4 lb a week. Now at 5 months in-have lost 23 lbs and weigh 119 lbs at 5’ 5”. I am never hungry.😮😮😮 I am super disciplined person. Wish I knew how bad sugar/carbs were for me much sooner in life. I do think this lifestyle is easier for me than some -since I am a widow and don’t have to worry about other’s food. *Main thing I tell beginners be sure to drink electrolytes each day. Will go get blood numbers done in March to see if my insulin resistance is reversing as this is my reason for starting.

I’ve been hard core keto at least 4 times in my life, for longish periods of time. I wasn’t ready yet to be slim (psycho-emotionally), so I am now losing the weight for the last time. Last time I did something similar was about 2 years ago, though it wasn’t a sustainable approach so not for very long. But I found this time, I was able to slip into OMAD comfortably pretty quickly with my body’s fat-burning machinery waking up and flipping into non-hunger within a couple days from a point of eating tons of sugars/processed carbs for at least the past 8 mos. I even ended up doing a 96 hour fast spontaneously a couple weeks in because I just wasn’t hungry - I didn;t push it, didn’t plan it, but fasts absolutely can happen very naturally, and I believe in following the body as long as it’s not running a bunch of sugar-burning signals! Not diabetic or even pre-diabetic, but that longer fast dropped my fasting sugars significantly, and I suddenly started sleeping well again. The body has a wisdom, and I think as long as we follow it closely, we can come out the other side healed. Best to all of you on the journey. ❤

This dude's like me. If you're going to do it then why prolong it longer than needed? Hmm...at the same time, he has no reason to be losing weight at 5'10"/160lbs so he should be in the enjoyment phase. Sword Fish and Bacon for breakfast! There's no reason to be going this hard at this point. With that type of Ketone access (lol, not like me; Even when doing Ketosis full time I never got over 3.1, which is actually severe danger according to the keto sticks I was using though I felt fantastic) he could make some serious muscle if he toned it down a bit and stuck with it. I'd say switch to a higher protein/medium fat/high fiber complex carbs if he's at his target weight *AND* has his main health issues under control while continuing to intermittently fast *BUT* I doubt he could stay clean long term. Speaking of crashing into Keto and crashing out of it, you almost got me doc. I'm very close to committing to Keto full time until I at least get the rest of my weight loss wrapped up if for nothing else than to minimize the extra skin and speed up that damn deep belly fat, mini-man boobs and love handle removal. I'm sure I can get the next 40lbs off with intermittent fasting which occasionally results into Ketosis...well daily now, but it's only for 2-5 hours max (my meal window is between 7pm and 10pm or 8pm and 11pm for the most part. I just cannot sleep fasted and have enough trouble with it when my ghrelin isn't screaming at me.). Anyway, we shall see. I'm dropping weight so quick atm (over 12lbs this month, 63lbs total) and my workout are going great. Arms, Chest and calves are all getting bigger while my waist is shrinking. Blood markers look good, though I'd guess I have a little extra narrowing in my blood vessels that don't show up in ekg's or regular yearly tests. I just started taking Berberine along with a few diet adjustments that are _supposed_ to help break up plaque/cholesterol/calcium, but know way of really knowing how that will go. I would ask my primary and toss out the reasons I suspect the possibility even though I've *never* been diagnosed with a cholesterol problem. I do have High Blood Pressure when I go over 225lbs though, without fail. Unfortunately my Primary Care Doctor just closed shop so I have to find a new one which is far more difficult than I thought. Really annoying. Either they have a 6 month waiting list, or I see someone once and am not comfortable with them, or I can tell they aren't too fond of me...What is it June now? Almost, so it's only been...11 months. Yikes. Sure glad I haven't caught a cold!

I am a doctor ,family medicine and surgery retired from Germany. I needed to retire because of a Giant Cell Vasculitis, which attacked practically all my big arteries. I did two years of classical medicine with Lots of Prednisolone and Toxicilumab an Il6 Blocker. I gained 30 kg and I still have a high CRP and the Aorta and carotides are still inflamed. The drugs gave me liver problems and horrible side effects, like Osteporosis, Pergament skin, Fatty Organs, headaches etc. So I decided to change things. I started Keto 2 weeks ago, lost allready 5 Kilos, mainly water I think and I have a meeting in a TCM clinic next month. I will tell you whether my Diet and TCM works better then 1200 Euro a week in drugs which made me bedridden with pain from the Ostoporosis and the high weight. I am 62 years old and would love to work again. But first I need my Immune system working again and the inflammation out of my body. I also take Gammalonolenic acid from black sesame seeds and mullein . If you have more good ideas , please let me know. I will write you about my progress if you are interested.

A high potassium diet will repair arteries. (Lots of green veggies & avocado). B Vitamins help your body adapt to keto. Potassium is very protective of the kidneys. Gallbladder really needs assistance. Ox bile/Tudca/Choline/Milk Thistle all support the liver. If he doesn’t feel well NutritionalYeast is key. 2T 3xday. From my personal experience. One size fits all BP is not a good idea. Not all adults are the same. Any engineer will tell you that a six foot man will need greater pressure than a five foot woman. We already know that children have much lower BPs, and that older people need more pressure to get the blood round the body. As a large 62 year old man I have learned to accept 139/89 is a my target. If I take medication to get under that I tend to get dizzy whilst walking. THis year I've done OMAD with KETO and lost 45 lbs, lowered my BP meds, stopped lanzoprazole, statins and CCI. No more heart pain (from my CAE), breathing better; sleep better; no more fatty liver. I am now ignoring all dietary guidelines. A1C and triglycerides down, HDL up. My LDL is up but I do no think that is a problem anymore.

Can I eat a carnivore diet cooked in butter, lard or coconut oil with now or very low carbs to put me on the right path? My testosterone was super high 3 years ago and my doctor said I must bring it down. The next year I lowered it and still lowered it again. Now I'm sluggish, low keyed, and seem to have no ambition. Should I raise it again? I did Keto, bought your study course, icebox magnets and guide book, then I started a sum what carnivore with very low or no carb and did fine. When I was told to drop my testosterone level, I declined greatly. I need some coaching if you do that. Please help me get back on track.

I have low motivation too. Fasting 18 hours. Low carb. It might be low potassium and not enough salt. I just read that. So I took a trace mineral supplement and am about to have some hot water with organic lemon and Himalayan salt. We’ll see if it helps.

How is it possible at a 40 hour fast your sugar was high and more importantly your ketones so low? Nothing to do with Tom Brady that is for sure. Would appreciate a response because it is important. Thanks. God Bless:)

@@Kevin.Grindel Thanks. What could be some other causes? Seems like that scenario is contrary to everything I've learned. Just did a 40 hour myself and the pee strip was a dark purple which means my ketones were good. Not into sticking myself so I don't know what my sugar level was. Been fat adapted for almost 4 years now. All good but this was concerning. Merry Christmas and God Bless:).

@@legaleagleandpaws8198 - When cortisol goes up, you’ve got blood sugar going up and insulin going up, and you’re NOT gonna burn fat in that biochemical situation. So you’re not gonna see much in the way of ketones. Some people's bodies perceive fasting as a stress and a threat, and it starts that chemical cascade. The body may begin tearing down proteins at a faster rate than other tissue, In order to get the glucose to run the body and especially the brain. This will obviously raise the blood sugar, raise insulin, drop fat burning completely. In this case it’s better to go back to eating, ideally small amounts of protein with fat...A big protein serving is also going to spike insulin, which blocks fat burning. It’s fascinating how some people are reverting back to multiple small meals only this time doing it keto style or carnivore style. Finding other ways to correct stress might be helpful as well, using things like Cold thermogenesis, minding your circadian rhythm and the timing of blue light exposure, grounding with your bare feet on the ground (or socks, or pure leather soles), and figuring out if you’ve got some nutritional holes in your diet as well as staying hydrated. One strategy is to drink water with sea salt in it, possibly even a teeny tiny pinch of borax against the fluoride in it, little bit of potassium salt or magnesium, and to drink a couple liters per day. If your body is toxic (and the fat cells do protect us by storing away toxic things in our bloodstream), then it may halt fat burning if the fat burning sends an alarm to the body as toxins are released back into the bloodstream. The body rigorously holds the blood at certain concentration levels of various substances if at all possible. The salt water trick makes it easier for toxins to leave the cells while replacing them with minerals using the principles Of osmotic pressure. there are recipes online to create a water that has approximately the same sodium/mineral concentration as the blood and that’s what you want. Edema is another sign of toxicity and dehydration in the body. The body is pulling the toxic stuff out of the bloodstream and putting it into other cells. But then it’s too toxic in the tissues so it absorbs more water into the tissues to dilute The toxins that it’s stores there. Saltwater trick helps with that also. When the body does annoying things, it is generally doing its best to protect us.

@@bitrudder3792 YIKES...lol. You need to do simplicity the way Father made it. Did you know that when we were all born the brain and body ran on “Ketones”? Ketones equal “fat” burning instead of insulin - carbs - sugar whatever you want to call it. All our bodies default to running on glucose BUT that can be changed by readapting the body to run on fat -Ketones. You can actually measure the amount of Ketones by peeing on an expensive pee strip. I am willing to bet a nickel that if you did the test it wouldn’t change color at all because your body is running on glucose and is NOT fat adapted. While some of what you said is true it misses the mark and wrong too. If you only have water or coffee for 24 hours the pee strip will turn purple and at 36 hours it turns a dark purple. Do you know what the purple scale is measuring? Right Ketones and shows that is what your body is using for energy. Your brain LOVES to run on ketones and is why all the fog, clarity, efficiency and those awesome feelings come from when you reach 36 hours - some say it is a spiritual experience. Problem is the only way to achieve this state is to become fat adapted and then do the fast - it is Lent you know. You didn’t mention “autography”. So it seems in the final analysis, you do you and I will do me. God Bless:)

My roommate glamorizes the old foods that I used to binge eat. Unmeasured, unlimited buffets, untimely, etc. Im one month into ketogenic. Im was proud to resist until it came to meatloaf I made for everyone. Broke fast. 😂 I feel like there should be a confession booth to tell if my fall. 😂😂😂. Im trying not to be dogmatic about ketogenic. I realized in my journey that my eating disorder stems from 1995 when I began to grieve. Since then, I never returned to 170, originally. 185 was closest but it was due to Hyperthyroidism, Graves Disease, now hypothyroid. Doctors have literally told me to get used to being fat. I refuse all. In one month, 242 to 225, today (17 lbs). Journey continues....

I agree , with his blood pressure being so high before, he is probably feeling somewhat bad from that alone being so much lower. I had an internist tell me one time that people who have real high blood pressure feel well, actually gives them a high and that I was rare because I felt bad when mine was up

The answer at some those people having difficultys may be moderation. Not all people are built same. If doin all right and you don't feel good, just back it up a litle. Don't go omad, eat some carbs like sweet potato.... And one more thing. Research what blood type you are in relationship to what you eat. Some reaserch say that at first all people was group 0. All others developed after changing diet to more corn and wheat....

A CIMT test will show the thickness of the artery wall. CIMT stands for Carotid Intima Media Test and it's an ultrasound of the carotid artery in your neck. It measures the thickness of the artery wall and shows the amount of soft plaque build up. This is great information to have versus a calcium score which shows only calcified hard plaque. While it's good to know your calcium score and your hard plaque risk, it's more important to know the status of your soft plaque because it is more likely to rupture and cause a heart attack or stroke.

My experience with Keto is that I am satiated and majority of the day is not thinking about food which is why I love Keto. I would like to know what you think???
