Downhill competitions with Goitiberas, curves from top to bottom
A goitibera or carrilana is a 3 or 4-wheel vehicle for road downhill competitions without any type of propulsion that reaches speeds of over 130 km / h. The term goitibera comes from the Basque language (goitik behera); and, literally, it means from top to bottom.
Dozens of fans came yesterday afternoon to the slopes and curves of the descent to the Puy, in Estella / Lizarra to enjoy the spectacle of the professionals of the world of goitibera, which had 12 participants, among which were the Navarrese champions for two consecutive years.
To know the beginnings of the goitiberas career, one must go back years, when children, in the absence of toys and using their imagination, used tables and scrap bearings from trucks, factories and mines that they took from anywhere to have fun. Speed without a motor, that is the essence of the goitibera.
Vehicles use their own weight and that of the occupant pair to pick up speed. From there, only braking expertise spreads seconds to the stopwatch. The route continues downhill, from the top, and the dozens of attendees had a great time with an event full of speed and controlled risk in some cases. This novelty can be considered a success in the local festive program.
