Inner city zones in SA tend to be quite safe during business hours, and of course the less you look like you have some-thing to take, the safer you are and the more relaxed you will feel, too. It's always wiser to know where you are in relation to well-known trouble spots.

I lived there for six months in 1989, it was good and reasonably safe then though I do recall carrying a 35mm camera and received lots of attention and was follow by a guy who was obviously intending robbing me, it was daytime in the main street and this was in Berea, luckily I was only walking a hundred yards or so, I was so glad to get to my destination safely! I wouldn't even visit now, too scary and basically not white friendly at all, I still have family out there but it is not for me thanks.

Beautiful country. However, one thing South Africa does need to work on is its public transport. It's a lot like the US in the sense that its kind of hard to get around unless you have your own vehicle. However, if that can be fixed, this country is definitely a great tourist destination!

What ever happened to the rainbow generation that was suppose to transform South Africa into a free and open society for all? This video is 8 years old and I didn't see a single white or asian person on the street but a video taken in the 1970's show a steady flow of black, white and asian peoples even though apartheid was in force. People should have turned to Christ who alone can bring peace and better life instead of some pop stars and social activist who sing and talk about injustice while propelling a culture into drugs, illicit sex and violence including here in America.

I loved Johannesburg, you just can't get a complete picture of SA if you don't go there. It has great parts and several attractions, and the CBD is very interesting and full of life during the day so I'd recommend to venture there, provided some basic and logical precautions are taken. I had no trouble whatsoever, and wandered around the center, Newtown and Braamfontein for hours. And believe me, a skinny white guy with a map and tripping all the time is not a particularly difficult target.

Thats what Mandela fight for... I hope some day all south africans find peace and focus on the Mother of Earth. South Africa. Love from Portugal bros.
