DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA (CNS) - A firefighter was hospitalized, two buildings were destroyed and five buildings were damaged by a raging fire that broke out in downtown Los Angles Friday morning.
Fire crews responded at 2:07 a.m. Friday to 683 S. Kohler St, near Seventh Street, to an outside storage area that caught fire and spread to several nearby buildings, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.
"Firefighters used ladder pipes, large-diameter hand lines and portable monitors to keep persistent water flow on the fire. Ultimately, it took over 170 firefighters 5 hours and 15 minutes to extinguish the flames," the department reported.
It was unclear how the firefighter was injured. The nature and severity of the injury was not disclosed. There were no other injuries.
Crews will remain on scene to put out any hot spots and continue to cool material beneath the debris. Smoke will be seen in the area throughout the day, fire officials said.
The cause of the fire was under investigation.
