A bit late for him to go on a Jake Gyllenhall trajectory. The thing is this kind of versatile acting is it needs to start at an early age (mid to late 20s) because once these actors hit their 40s it's really hard for them. Although I do see him partaking in great roles for the years to come.
@nguyea09

Maxblind20 Not really, look at McConaughey, wasn't exactly doing great movies, dramatic acting roles in the early 00's. Now he has an oscar and golden globe within the last few years. Pine seems to have the ability just hasn't chosen enough roles that exemplify it?

My dad always wore white socks and black shoes. Never penny-loafers, usually wing-tips. God Rest that man's SOUL! Best man, and human being I've ever known. Literally built houses for people for free - before Habitat - because that's who he was. I never understood how he made his living, because he was always taking care of other people, right until he died at 93. We grew up in poverty - one pound of hamburg, one pound of oatmeal, yet he always had time for the neighbors, and always had time to teach me how to throw a punch, hit a baseball, and never assume the worst of others. He died 10 years ago last week, and the world is colder because of that loss.

This interview is gold. I almost enjoy these guys talking about other films and shows more than their own. Plus, it's refreshing to hear their perspective on the state of the industry; as in the growing disparity between the "tentpole" films and the low-budget films that Chris Pine refers to. This has been a trend that's been going on since the early 2000s especially, and it's a shame. Anyway, great interview. Thanks!

anybody else know the script by heart? I can't count how many times I watch this movie. .. obviously enough to have memorized the scripst and the musical lyrics... this movie has another side to it, that's what makes it so great. There is always a parallel them of lost salvation running alongside what you actually see. You have to take care to watch the shortest clips to really get it. I love the part where Jeff is getting up out of bed at the end and his face. It shows all of his true agony as far as age, etc., are concerned. He grabs his blanket and walks across the street and sleeps on the bench. He really is NOT looking forward to retirement... until the story challenge at the very end. He will be on the job for a while, post-retirement. They could actually make another sequel but it would ruin the mystery

I also loved how the interviewer kept in Chris's "I'm exhausted" at the end. Yes they were relatively relaxed and chill but they're still trying to sell a movie and are effectively "working".
