@IsaacD39 most class 4 lasers (over 500mw)depending on color are visible in bright, dry air, and some class 3b greens. In order of brightness for usual dpss and diodes: green/yellow, bright red, blue, royal blue, deep red. thats 532/570-590nm, 640nm, 473/460nm, 445nm, 650-660nm.most dangerous in that list for a given power and beam size is 445nm - getting close to UV which is what sunglasses block out.

@Lax96Bro Power density. The amount of power this takes is not something a soldier could carry; which means it could be tethered to a truck, but then you have a very visible target. Plus, while it can burn, for the amount of time it takes to do damage, you could send several hundred bullets or a rocket that would do far more.

Check out my homepage for further experiments using laser. There are several easy to do examples to split the beam, modulate on of the two and then recombine them to produce low frequency beats. These beats should be able to induce currents into the body to transmit sound or steer muscles if used with high power lasers. You dont even need a laser, this can be done with ordinary light and heat radiation as well. The double slit experiment mostly is done with an ordinary light source.

@MulleDK13 well that kind that take planes down from blinding the pilots are the high powered less dangerous pointers all green laser pointers have the farthest reach of any laser class. only green lasers are illegal in towns that have airports every other color phases out long before it hits that height. then again anything can take a pilot out at any time they have that much sway.

I have a question. The warning label on Class 4 lasers state that you have to wear safety goggles when handling these type of lasers. Is it required because the laser could be reflected by accident into your eyes or is the beam so powerful that you can't even look at it (perpendicular) without harming your eyes?

If the light is focused, why do we see the beam? Do you use some kind of medium, like smoke? Or with this powers you can no longer create invisble beam, because it actually lights up the air?
