My dad was a master of that. When he yelled or raised his voice i knew it wasn't going to be too bad. It's when he would speak quietly and with careful deliberation that I knew my world was about to get fucked up.

I love this scene. I love how everyone's sort of walking over Cox at the beginning like naughty kids in a classroom. It's really powerful the way he gets everyone to shut up just from standing there lookinf pissed- I had teachers who could do that at school! His whole 'I'm accountable' thing is right on, I love it. McGinley rules!

You know looking back on it this scene is a perfect representation of what Doctor Cox was asking for from Ed in Season 8. He wasn't asking for the right answers, he was asking for the commitment to try and want to do better but ultimately he was just lazy and as promised discarded forever one moment, and forgotten about soon after.

Turns out these doctors were great at what they did irrespective of their flaws, but just like cox in this episode people failed to acknowledge the great things in bvs like Junkie XL's dark portrayal of the batman, the cinematic colour grading and feel to the film....Sure Nolan did great story telling to BB and TDK but Snyder bought the fucking graphic novel fantasy to everyone which Nolan couldn't......so in summary as much as I love cox through the series, just because of your rant I side against him in this respect

I have on several occasions adopted this for my own purposes, especially the phrase, " one of you perpetual disappointments." The combination of the calm demeanor and the coherent string of insults usually gets results.

This clip illustrates what seems to be a common theme throughout the show -- that a few people (Dr. Cox, Carla, etc.) -- REALLY care about their job, while the rest (JD, Turk, Todd, and usually Elliot) are much more interested in their silly little personal lives.

This is scene is more profound if you saw the Lottery episode. Where a patient died because everyone else was doing something stupid, resulting in the interns, who did their best, trying to save the poor guy. And Dr. Kelso and Dr. Cox called them out on their crap.

@@drpinky504 The usual charge would kill someone on a regular rhythm. The reason they shout "clear" when using them is because typically, you'll have multiple people working on a person -- bagging them, giving them epinephrine, doing compressions, the works -- so when you do shock the patient, anyone else still touching the patient gets shocked right along with them. "Clear" means, "get your hands clear out of the way, or you're going with them". So, Dr Cox would have had to be using a very low charge in this scene.

This scene is near perfect. Cox reprimanded the shit out of them while also remaining professional. No indivdual insults in classic Cox fashion, just blunt honesty and calling out then arogant interns, telling them to take their jobs seriously because he's the one who will end up taking the bullet for their mistakes and lack of action.... then, when done with calling them all out, he shifts right back into being the saracastic lovable ass he is. John McGinley and the writers absolutely nailed Dr. Cox as a character.

I'm a support worker for low functioning adults and I watch this speech every now and again tae remind me how tae properly use anger in my job. As of this morning, I was part of the start of the process tae toss a lazy, unthinking screw up out of here as he has failed for the last time. Won't forget him though. Those who don't learn their lessons should become a lesson.
