Dr. Emorja Roberson Educator in African American Music.
Emorja’s heart: pursuing the music of the African American culture. Emorja is a conductor, vocalist, and composer who specializes in classical and gospel music. Emorja has a Master’s of Sacred Music in Vocal Performance and a Doctorate of Musical Arts and Core Conducting from the College of Arts and Letters at the University of Notre Dame, the first African American in the program. Outside of Notre Dame, he found his community in South Bend through the church, his safe haven, where he found educators, engineers, artists, and others that quickly became his community. He produced BE-SPOKEN, his most recent oratorio, that highlights the Black experience through jazz, hip-hop, and gospel, written shortly after George Floyd was murdered. Why does he do what he does? Emorja said for his godson. To show him what a Black man can do, within the Academy and within the world.
