Billys outer layer is himself. When you look closer hes Dr. Horrible. But when you get close enough there is another layer same as the outside. Billy talks about a pie in the film, jokingly saying that captain hammer is that way to discourage penny. Or is it his justification on the way he is. On the inside(the deeper inside) hes still a good guy. This is why at the end of the film you see just billy in his lab. We get to know him, and it turns out hes just billy if you dig deep enough.

The ending is when I realized how much I loved this movie. We see Dr. Horrible's life seem to be what he wants--full of power and friends and he's in the League of Evil. But all of a sudden it cuts to Billy, and those two seconds really sum up what he's feeling, and how all that he gained doesn't even matter anymore. It's really hard for me to put into words how this ending makes me feel, even after watching this movie so many times. I never thought my favorite movie would be less than an hour long.
@OscatJ
9 жыл бұрын
The best part about those 2 seconds has got to be how it mirrors the opening, it starts with him in his villain costume trying really hard to be a villain, to me the last seconds are him wishing he could just be Billy again, that dream being as distant and difficult as his journey to becoming a part of the ELE

+OtakuBeat That would run completely counter to the theme of this movie. To me, this movie reads like an allegory written by a Marxist. Dr. Horrible represents Marxism, Penny represents liberalism, and Captain Hammer represents capitalism. From a Marxist's point-of-view Penny, though having noble goals fails to see the bigger picture and the inherent problems that are deeply ingrained in the capitalist system, and her relationship with Captain Hammer and disapproval/ignorance of Dr. Horrible symbolize how liberals basically love and are attached to capitalism due to their inability to see the bigger picture and the contingency of our socially-constructed notions of "good" and "evil". In the end, Penny is killed by Captain Hammer, but Dr. Horrible is blamed. I'm not a Marxist, and I love this movie to death, but I still notice these themes all over the place. And creating an "actual good guy" to oppose Dr. Horrible in a sequel would completely ruin the entire spirit of the movie.
@leikfroakies
8 жыл бұрын
+JustAnotherGamer I'd say it's a little less political than that and more about the labels of hero and villain. Captain Hammer is representative of the people who fight on the side of law that is corrupt whilst Dr Horrible sees the evil and corruption but I'm battling it becomes evil and corrupt in hisself. Penny represents the regular person who doesn't want political power, but just wants to undo evil in the world little by little, but is killed by the feud between good and evil, making the point that the film's hero is Penny, the optimist who believes that uniting people is the best way to accomplish goals
@justanothergamer9570
8 жыл бұрын
Cribsmas Morn. It's definitely, in part, about the labels of hero and villain, but really... saying this movie isn't political seems kind of like saying The Chronicles of Narnia isn't religious. Dr. Horrible is constantly talking about how his main goal is to disrupt the status quo and change the system that puts people in poverty, and he really likes Penny's goal of helping the homeless, but he views that as merely a symptom of the capitalist system that he is trying to destroy. He refers to Captain Hammer as a "corporate tool". Captain Hammer is obsessed with his own power, and looks down on the poor. I do take back what I said about this movie reading like it was written by a Marxist. It reads more to me like it is simply following the point-of-view of a Marxist. When I think about the ending, it gives me a feeling that it was most likely not written by one. I still feel like this movie has a lot of political commentary to it if you look hard enough.

I've been thinking about the way I theorize the story. ***SPOILERS*** I think it's a way of giving us a likable villain but a distasteful good guy. We are rooting for the bad guy to win because he is our protagonist, and he eventually does! So that fits into the way stories are told. But, Dr. Horrible is the stories villain so he can not win and that is why Penny dies. Such a great movie, what does anyone think?
@crazitaco
8 жыл бұрын
11:17 And it is in that very moment that Dr. Horrible sealed his own fate. Like, I don't think people realize how important that exact moment was. Billy reached a fork in his road, with a decision that would have an unforseeable life-changing influence on his future and the future of those around him. Unbeknownst to him, he could never have everything he wanted, and choosing one path would in-turn destroy the other. He had only seconds to weigh which he valued more. He hesitates for a moment, his thoughts of Penny merely trailing off into "Maybe I should..." Can you imagine how differently the story might have turned out, had he followed his gut instinct right there? The sad part is that he technically the more logical choice, the choice to take matters into his own hands. His decision was fueled by the belief that success with the ELoE would give him control over everything, including Penny's heart. But his decision was also a dark one. He _chose_ the path to darkness, and the chain of events that would cause him to unintentionally destroy the very one he claimed to love. His assumption that he could easily win Penny's heart even as a villain was horribly wrong. She could never love a fully-fledged villain because she was morally a good person; his idea to dry her tears with a "shiny new Australia" would never have worked even if Captain Hammer had been successfully death-rayed. I like to imagine a scenario in which he _did_ go with his gut. One where he finishes with, "Maybe I should talk to her" and actually puts the remote control away to speak with her for real. He finally talks to her, and the more he speaks, the more of the darkness inside becomes revealed to Penny. However, Penny does not shrink away. She can see that he lost and running farther into the dark tunnel, but not irredeemably so. He can still be saved. She is not unfamiliar with being in a place of darkness, and is moved with empathy for his wayward soul. She convinces him to visit the homeless shelter with her, and they begin to date. Penny, the one who grew up lost and lonely, begins to warm the frost that had long since been eating away at Billy's heart. She is the one who finally leads Billy out of the tunnel of darkness. Billy slowly becomes more good, which causes him to destroy his chances with the ELoE, but in return gain the love of his life and find new life-purpose. He doesn't control everything, but with the little influence from charity work he is able to turn some lives around, and that's something he is genuinely happy about. Things are starting to look up for once, until Captain Hammer begins to rear his ugly head again. He has no rival to fight with now that Dr. Horrible has turned over a new leaf. Captain Hammer's obsession with being a "hero" leads him to antagonize the now civilian Billy, which causes CH to show his true colors to the world and lose support.

Buffy8Fan I dont think that was the purpose of the final shot. I think it was to show the contrast between Dr Horrible and quirky love-struck blogger Billy, to show that underneath the "unfeeling" Doctor Horrible is still a vulnerable young dreamer who has powerful emotions, and underneath the layers he is devastated by the very thing that landed him his title. A moment when you're meant to pity him and what he lost by gaining. Neither is canon, though, so that is at least my perspective.

I think Penny used to be homeless. The song she sings in the laundromat is about how she used to be homeless, and she struggled with loosing jobs, but eventually she got a home which happened to be in a city full of homeless people. That could also be why she likes doing laundry; she used to only have a few articles of clothing that she had to wear all the time, but now she can make her entire wardrobe clean whenever she wants to.

Her character on Buffy the Vampire Slayer was killed off too. Personally, I see her line about getting fired as a meta joke for her characters being killed off.

Wes KZitem actually, her character on Buffy wasn't killed off. She survives the final battle against the army of vamps. It's Anya that doesn't survive.

If only all movies could have such a simple story line that completely grabs the audience and ends like that... I want to know more but i feel like thats the perfect ending

Just the opening...I've now watched so much Joss Whedon work and a bunch of his interviews....I can practically hear him saying the opening monologue. It just sounds like his style.

I have watched this numerous times and I've noticed a few more things... Like at the part at the end when Captain Hammer is singing Everyone's A Hero is that at that point I think he actually meant what he said. I always thought he was just saying it for the press but now he sounds like he realized how much good he was doing by helping the homeless, he got more passionate as the song progressed. He's stupid but that would have been like a turning point for him, like Penny showed him how to be actual good . I also saw how when he was saying, yea we totally had sex, that Penny started to walk away. She was realizing that Captain Hammer didn't like her as much as she thought cause he just did it to say he had sex with her. Maybe afterwards if Dr. Horrible hadn't come, she might have broke up with him. DR. HORRIBLE COULD HAVE HAD HER IN THE END! Also I don't see how some people think this was just a dream or his imagination. Cause when he kills her he's CLEARLY dying on the inside. So the montage happens and stuff and he gets into the Evil League of Evil and after that is when he breaks down realizing he killed Penny. I'm just saying that if it were just a dream that Billy had then why would he be so broken up about it?

I love this sooo much. Neil Patrick Harris was here for a convention this past weekend, and he is incredibly funny, friendly and chatty with everyone. There was a panel in which they showed "Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog" on the big screen...what a loud, excited audience! 8-)

I don't understand...Isn't Barney supposed to be a womaniser? Also I bet Howard is just sitting thinking 'another guy, another obsession with a woman named Penny'. Obviously, I'm kidding. Dr Horrible is actually my favourite 'movie'/villain ever. I can barely handle all the feels.

Mělo to skončit známější, než jako víceméně internetový projekt, je to skvělé. I po několikáté se mi to doopravdy líbí a ještě mě to neomrzelo. Obsazení je skvělé. Hudba je skvělá. Zajímavě provedený námět. Doopravdy to můžu jenom doporučit :)
