It’s a paradox that Dr. James White a staunch defender of God’s inerrant Bible is so fond of CS Lewis who didn’t think God’s Word was infallible.

It's not a paradox. Many many many inerrant-christians think very well of him. You dont have to take people in their entirety... you never do that with people.

I listen to JW A LOT...and I can't even recall him mentioning CS Lewis, there are presumably very little instances where he mentions him. To say he is fond of him is not clear from where I am sitting, but even if he is, (which I don't see how you came to than conclusion) that isn't a paradox by any means.

People will believe fiction is nonfiction. Freud wrote the antidote to Christianity is literacy. No one seeks prophets in The Yellow Pages. Nothing fails like prayer in a children's hospital & even The Christ says faith is proven worthless by the failure of mountains responding to verbal, grandiose landscaping commands.

So do we throw the KJV out and find another one more better for today?
@karlwagner7150
8 ай бұрын
No. It's just not KJV Only. an early 17th century translation, it has shown us the beauty and majesty of the work of the translators. But we have more manuscripts today that will render better translations. I normally use an NASB, but will use a KJV in the pulpit at times. King James isn't the problem. It's the "only" part.

No. KJV is the best and it's proven. It's not hard to understand why but people like White cause confusion. Gail Riplinger has done amazing work and you can find videos of her sharing the info. Chris Pintos documentaries A Lamp in the Dark and the sequel Wheat Among Tares are great for history. Lots of info out there. Sam Gipp... On KZitem and his books Gipp's Understandable History of the Bible and the answer books. Don't allow White's presentation to be the end of the story. Everyone has a side and the first to tell theirs seems to be correct. That doesn't make it so. God bless.

The KJV is the pinnacle of English Bibles. The English language wasn't standardized, in spelling in the very least, until around the time of KJV and may actually be the fulfillment of Psalm 12:6-7. You all really need to hear what Gail Riplinger, Sam Gipp, and others say about this topic.

Paul ,for one, is saved not by reading kjv. so is the rest of the early church who did not yet have what we have , God is gracious to us with the collection of all scripture. plenty of modern jews are saved just by just reading isaiah 53 from their tanakh(such as dead sea scrolls). we don't need a single complete perfect translation in order to understand the simple message of Jesus's good news. english is not the language of adam or Jesus anyway, it is just one of the languages that further showcase God's mercy to the gentiles. the kjv only guys need to understand some basic simple logic. God had always worked though all kinds of translations. His message of love is so consice and beautiful that any human languages (earthly as it was) is more than capable to transmit. even sign language can do . come on!

You can't go wrong with the KJV 1611 BIBLE. So why even take the risk on the others ?

The phrasing of the question indicates that you're not really seeking knowledge. However, I'll try to give a thoughtful answer with good reasons that someone would prefer the LSB, NASB, ESV, etc. If you prefer the KJV, by all means, keep reading it and keep cherishing it. But there is significant evidence that indicates the Critical text, which provides the source for the "others", more closely represents what was actually written by the NT authors. If these versions are also easier to read and easier to interpret because they use far more similar language to what we use today, it seems a better question to ask is why would you want to lay an additional burden on people seeking God because of your preference? You would need to make the case that there is "risk" in using something other than KJV and it seems Dr. White spoke for several hours on the topic. Clearly that didn't convince you so I'm not sure why you'd think a quasi-snarky comment about the risk of the other translations with zero evidence or reasoning is supposed to convince me to adopt a KJV-only mindset.

You can't go wrong with KJV 1611? It's clear you either didn't watch this whole presentation or you did and you just choose to rejects the honest truth. There is plenty of examples where KJV is not rendering it superior or more authentic, so why take the risk continuously defending an inferior translation??

When the righteous turneth away from his righteousness, and committeth iniquity, and doeth according to all the abominations that the wicked man doeth, shall he live? All his righteousness that he hath done shall not be mentioned: in his trespass that he hath trespassed, and in his sin that he hath sinned, in them shall he die. {Ezekiel 18:24} Say unto them, As I live, saith the Lord GOD, I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked; but that the wicked turn from his way and live: turn ye, turn ye from your evil ways; for why will ye die, O house of Israel? {Ezekiel 33:11}

Believe the Bible is inerrant? Read Exodus 32:14, "And the Lord repented of the evil which he thought to do unto his people.", Here the Bible says that God was going to do evil but repented. God repented? What caused him to repent, well, Moses talked him out of his evil, according to Exodus. How did Moses accomplish this feat? Well, according to the Bible, Moses shamed him into repenting by telling him that if he destroyed his people (the Hebrews) the Egyptians would hold him in contempt. In other words according to the Bible, God is so sensitive to people's opinions of him he changed his actions to keep from being held in contempt. Who knew God was so sensitive? By the way, check the lists given in Ezra and Nehemiah, very different in an "inerrant" Bible.

Wow. So first things first, the whole thing of God repenting is completely irrelevant to the issue of inerrancy. Secondly, the repenting there is not the same as you and I repenting. It is that due to Moses' intercession, God stayed his hand from judgement. The old testament is replete with these kinds of things. God tells Ezekiel (and I'm paraphrasing here) if a righteous man stops being righteous and starts to do evil, he will perish because of the evil he has done and will not be saved on account of his righteousness. Did God "repent" in your sense of the word? No, he permitted judgement to fall on the now unrighteous man.

In terms of Ezra and Nehemiah, the difference in numbers could be due to the dates the books were written. Nehemiah, which was written later, could include different numbers for each family present since it records those who were in Jerusalem (and Ezra records those who left Babylon - the passage of time could have increased the number between the two recorded lists)

The problem with the updating to new English terms is that the language only seems to go downhill and change. Keep it pure. And no matter the humbleness of the 1611 translators....it was God who was preserving it through His ways, it wasn't the translators job to do that nor need they be aware of what God was doing behind it all. Overall James White did a poor job of representing the topic he's attacking. Do your homework Christian, do not rely on James White. He isn't perfect like God and he is certainly biased. God promised to preserve His words. Did he? Yes of course. Also, the KJV is about a 5th grade reading level. A good dictionary source is Noah Webster's 1828 dictionary.

Very inaptly titled. This is nothing but a two hour rant to fundamentalists against fundamentalists. The material is what is taught in any freshman Intro to NT in seminary, and has nothing to do with inerrancy. James seems to enjoy wowing and brow-beating trusting people that never took that class. His condescending taunting is quite distasteful.
