it easy to say, but if it is part of your life and it takes 2 years - then if feels real. Remember that it took 2 years. How careful a woman can be? Should all women hire prive detecvives before marrying or dating - seems so.

Just watched the documentary. This is classic Narcissistic Personality Disorder and sociopathy. I love that she did this...I love that she allows herself to be vulnerable about the trauma and the confusing feelings that are left in the aftermath. I would love to see her connect the dots with NPD and take the show one step further documenting stories of other women who have endured similar experiences. Her crazy, over-the-top story isn’t the norm, but there are many of us out here who can share stories of lies, future-faking, pretending, posing, masking...and the emotional fall-out that comes with that. Paolo is a complete narcissist. Plain and simple.

Many years ago while visiting Puerto Rico I befriended a young lady I met on a beach. She met a pilot that swept her off her feet. He asked her to marry him. Gave her money for a dress., etc. after a while he just dropped out of sight. She asked me to go to the little airport he worked out of and find out what happened to him. After inquiring, I was informed that he was home (in another town) with his wife, and five children. Hardest thing I’ve ever had to do at that time. She was crushed! Till this day, I cannot wrap my brain around his reasons for his deception. Benita’s story is 10x’s worse. So many were dragged into this man’s delusions! Thanks for the courage in sharing it!

It is so important to not let someone make you keep secrets or not share full details about their life, and a upcoming wedding. She should have been part of the planning of Everything. Now that is the Million Dollar question! I'm curious too...Sociopaths / Narcissists are usually clever enough to persuade and manipulate their victims to pay it forward... as they drain their accounts. Some habits are just so obvious.

@@spectacularrichbeautybrilli that's true... I watched it twice on Roku, they have it on discovery channel the full story., have you watched it there as well? There are more details, been said that she started saying she was living with him an extravagant life she never imagined, she will never lived and she like it. Then she continued going on...

First, I think it’s unfortunate for her to have experienced the lie her fiancé projected to her. Second, I hope she looked at the up side of their romance - remember the romantic gesture he did for her. He is gorgeous. And he did lavish her with cheap gifts and good memories. He did it just for fun. He didn’t do it to cheat for her money. I think it’s alright. He is not the only liar. Men lie. Period.

The same thing happened to me. He told me he was going to marry me and we were going to live in a house in miorca. I loved him so much. He talked me into walking away from my 28 year marriage. Breaking up my children's childhood home. They were 18 and 20 at the time but the divorce still hurt them both deeply and my daughter doesn't talk to me to this day. He told me I didn't need to fight for any money in the divorce.. that I didn't need it. He would take care of me. So I walked away from everything that was rightfully mine and Today have nothing. A life I had worked night and day to create for 28 years...i left behind because of a promise ....a lie. I was so stupid. And my ex husband feels like he got away with stealing everything from me. I am 56 years old and cleaning houses to support myself on less than 30K a year. All because I loved this guy when he said he loved me. I am heartbroken to this day and that was 4 years ago.

I met a guy online, he lied about his name, age, work, and of course being single. He used me for sex and money, then one day I found out that he moved a girl In with him. I was so hurt that I almost took my life, and I consider myself a very strong woman. He still blamed me or had excuses AND he would still come knocking on my door! He wanted me to be friends with his girlfriend. She left him after a couple of months, he never stopped online dating.

He told her that the Pope was going to marry them, that he was going to give them Holy Communion even though they were both divorced. He told her that the Clintons and Obamas would be guests at their wedding. For a successful and intelligent woman she sure let her common sense desert her.

Yes totally agree, even watching the ABC doco there was a clip on him supposedly playing the piano ,I wondered myself if it had prerecorded music on,when she sold it ,the women that bought it told, benita, surely being supposedly intelligent she would look at the electric piano ,she didnt,I think she was just swept up with the money and lifestyle, who would actually believe the Pope is going to marry you?pleeeease

He's the kind of man that can never be a real man but he thinks he can be by lying. He is a facade he is a fake and he definitely a see-through. He'll never find a good woman that will stay with him because eventually his game will end just like the game of life. He deserves everything he gets miserably and the company that he goes with. Thank God that woman didn't marry him and I told her so good riddance

My friend's father is very similar to this man. In my view "Wow" from him means "you stupid little thing you haven't even scratched the surface, I'm a pro at this and watch it I can destroy you" & he has destroyed both his children whom self medicate and are on antidepressants all their lives, have sick relationships with others and are always searching for good psychologists and psychiatrists!!! These people are very dangerous. In my view has also 'killed' his wife from the sick relationship she had with him for over 47 yrs. He 'killed' his wife's dog when she was in hospital as he kept giving it salty human food and the dog had kidney issues and he was told not to and his child had left special dog food for it that he ignored!!! Luckily these kids in their 40's haven't wanted to breed due to their issues growing up in such a narcisistic environment! I have some contact with them these days only if they feel well enough! It is devestating to me.

After watching (in horror) the 20/20 episode I'm a bit confused on the timeline. The New York Times shows Betina Alexander-Noel had a subsequent marriage, in 2012, to a gentleman named Edson Jeune, who I presume was NOT the father of her daughter, since the NYT wedding announcement indicates Betina was already divorced. Therefore she'd had TWO marriages prior to meeting the sociopath doctor. I note the 20/20 episode curiously does not mention this second 2012 marriage, nor does Ms. Alexander allude to it here. It must have been a brief/hasty marriage since Macchiarini was already proposing to her at Christmas 2013. If Ms. Alexander were my sister or a friend, I would encourage her to seek out major rounds of therapy, in addition to retribution, to address deeper issues.

All the classic signs of Narcisism was there. Like so many of us, we have no knowledge of these type of people and our vulnerability makes us perfect targets for them. Believe me, they are great actors and this can happen to the best of us. There's light at the end of the tunnel though. Take care of yourself and seek healing.
