Such tradition and culture is hard to find outside of China these days!When I was growing up as a child decades ago in Singapore we did follow many of the traditions but over time many of them have been lost or forgotten. I am now in my mid-eighty!😂

From a newbie to such pre Chinese new year celebrations, it has carnival like atmosphere and disney-ish night parade , an appetiser before main course. Your reconstituted dragon is the standout and a real thing of beauty to Behold. The kid you bought bamboo solenoid from looked familiar: elvis dancing impersonator from st patrick's parade? Thank you from the bottom of my heart in indulging fans from online and 1- 2 hours radius away. what more can you ask for? You're the best!!! Oh I used to eat the red turtles too, delish

@@kats_journey_east what advices on uncomfortable water pipe freezing have being received? I had friendly suggestion of letting water drip slowly keeping it unclogged thereby collecting enough to boil warm water for a wash with cloth or desperate measure of blow torching it🤔

tried all those , sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't because it's not always just my pipes that froze, sometimes its the main supply pipe and there is nothing I can do about that. there is a spring on the mountain I get water from too, never seen that frozen yet

@@kats_journey_east mineral contents in spring water could be acting as antifreeze if all villagers collaborate a water pump could help, it doesn't help you now. I understand why a small fortune spend on central heating with free water off condensation

Westerners like to say the Chinese always copy their technology. The ancient Chinese invented a lot of toys such as the kite, yo-yo, marbles, bamboo flutes and one of the toys, the bamboo dragonfly, was picked upon by Western engineers as the concept for helicopters.

I really envy the behavior of the people there !!! They're so calm / happy / smiley / well-behaved. Here in NYC, whenever we have street-wide celebrations (puerto rican day, etc) you'll expect perverts / angry people / bullies / crazys / racist / etc. Now I see why many westerners fell in love with China !

Thank you for sharing this wonderful video-it usher the CNY festive season at the right moment. In Singapore we have plentiful of traditional food and crafts imported from China line along the streets and neighbourhood specially for this period. Every year province are invited to perform till the full moon of CNY元宵佳节(the performing artistes not only come to perform but will being along their craft and traditional food to grace this occasion to celebrate the festivities period

Seeing Katherine’s local Year of the Dragon celebrations in Zhejiang so rich and lively, I learned that the dragon is not only a myth but also closely related to the people and the land. Bravo. I noticed After living in China for five years, Katherin has become one with the local Chinese people. is used to bargaining when shopping and asking about income and the price of items. 入境隨俗,From this aspect, is already a genuine Chinese! LOL

I really enjoyed your explanations of the traditions here because my mom nor dad never explained them to me. That puppet fighting game seems so cool that even as an adult I would love to play it. Love how they were environmentally conscious with making the dragons. Glad that you ate the turtle. May you live to 100+ of age so that we can see more of these awesome videos!

"Spring Festival". I used to question that a lot in Harbin. When I lived in Hong Kong and Singapore we just used to call it Chinese New Year. PS I like the "Parson's nose" of poultry, mush to the disgust of some of our neighbours. Huan is used to me! PPS What a wonderful video. It's great seeing people really enjoying the celebration.

Great episode, Katherine. The handicrafts made out of natural materials are so cool. Particularly the fighting puppets - so much fun. Brings back memories of the lanterns made out of bamboo strips and rice paper during the lantern festival. Can’t wait to visit China. Thanks very much.

I bet they will become avid travelers whenever they find out what the rest of the world has to offer! I am not saying they will dislike the US , they will just broaden their horizons. Katherine, some words of advice...don't ever lose that rice grass donut you bought from that adorable kid and the video footage. That kid will be the next Jack Ma, much bigger I'm sure and will buy out Alibaba for sure. That donut will be worth billions when that kid buys it from you, because that donut was the seed that was planted in him to be the biggest seller in the world and he will want that donut to be framed and hung in the lobby of his World Headquarters. Serendipity flows through you like the many great rivers in China. The recycled plastic dragon is a work of art...it may be a small step for the village in the overall scheme of things but it's a giant step in effort for Mother Earth. Ciao.

Makes me want to go to my ancestral village to celebrate new year even though I do not have any family or friends there. Meanwhile, thank you for showing the real origin of the "dragonball". I bet most western audience of the popular (in the late 90s 2000s) Akira Toriyama animie/manga Dragonball doesn't have a clue why the dragonballs would summon the dragon 😁
