i really have no idea why some ppl think turn based is a bad thing or a thing that should stay in the past, it's such a fun mechanic idk why we would ever let go of it, Also a linear game isn't always bad if it's well constructed, personally i'm kinda tired of all the open worlds, sometimes you don't wanna overthink were you are going and it makes the experience more enjoyable.

I am really glad they have a Veteran Dragon Quest player reviewing this! Hearing all the improvements he mentioned has me hyped to play this game, as well as the neat twist on the battle system where turns are per character, which really changes battle strategy later on from constantly spamming heal all spells/Sage Stones to something a bit more thought out. Also the fact that this is linked to the 1-3 world really has me intrigued! I am assuming the "Legendary Hero" the main character is related to is Erdrick/Loto, which means this is most likely after 2!

I also think its interesting that this is connected to the story of the original trilogy, I wouldn't have thought they'd ever revisit that world again. I think its pretty obvious that we're playing as the reincarnation of erdrick, though maybe they're gonna pull a DQ V on us where... SPOILERS we're not the legendary hero, but one of our party members is. I mean yes, there is the tattoo and the fact that the reincarnation thing seems to be established early on, but this wouldn't be the first DQ plot twist, would it? Also, the "turns per character" thing definately intrigues me, but I'm not quite sure yet if I like it or not.

Anime are not allowed, legally to do it. Which is why they don't. There's alot of people who talk about the difficulties about lip synch on youtube, etc. Especially KaiserNeko, from TeamFourStar. He went indepth, on twitter, about how and why official dubs are not allowed to do lipsynch adjustments etc. And since he's in the Voice Acting industy aswell, he also gave his thought on the matter. Highly suggest for anyone who's asked the question, to follow him and ask him for answers on the matter.

I think there are still tons of open spaces to explore, sort of like how xenoblade 2 was basically linear, except each area was very large and you were free to explore each area to your heart's content. Unlike xenoblade though DQ XI has a world map which you can navigate and explore, so that adds to the freedom factor i think. Either way, super pumped about this.

Can't wait for the PS4 version of the game, but disappointed that Square Enix would leave out Nintendo fans as there will be no 3DS version and the Switch version won't be released until 2019. Square Enix failed the second time as they screwed up on "Secret of Mana", and now no 3DS version of Dragon Quest 11 and no opportunity to play this game across different platforms like the Japanese counterpart. Game release timing is another issue as it comes out right after Labour Day weekend as opposed to a little sooner into the Summer Months.

Back before I had internet I used to be like the "begginer" dude. But by the time I got it, I never went blind in a game series. The last time was with FF and KH series. And both times, I researched the story of the series, both development and in game, and that made me apreciate those even more. Thank goodness I do that now, because I would never had the same experience I did with the Witcher 3 if I didn't research, read the books, and got a good vibe of the story of the previous games of the series. Althou I do understand, it just makes it more enjoyable for me. I reccomend you guys and gals do it as well, especially if the in game story is not directly related, you gain so much more from reading and researching about the care and love the developers and fanbase have for the series ^^ (and yes, learning it's memes as well I guess)

This was an excellent idea, the whole beginner meets expert setup -- I'm a total DQ n00b myself, despite the fact that JRPGs are my favorite kind of game, and this will be my first DQ game ever; so while the Beginner's viewpoints might be the most relevant at first glance for me, I was actually very curious about what long term fans of the series would think, if this would be perceived as the devs selling out to grab the western fans, or if they would manage to keep true to the series' USPs and still manage to make it an appealing game both for more western-ish gamers and newcomers to the series entire. Based on this very preview, I have decided that I will take the plunge and get this game, once I'm able to afford it -- so thank you for this, once again: excellent idea!

DQ is probably the most consistant, or very close to it, franchise of video games ever to stick to one main era of portrayal, an un"cannibox"style of updates that only add to modernizing a proven to work concept in bigger and better ways. im a MASSIVE turn-based JRPG fanatic and ive played every Dragon Quest and Dragon Warrior games other than the 1 HIGHLY elusive torneko taloon mystery dungeon that got minimal release to western audiences and ive beaten most of them. DQ 8 is likely my personal favorite but is a bit of toss up tie between the DW Monsters Games on the Game Boy and Game Boy Color and though released for two different versions of the game boy the original Dragon Warrior Monsters (Originated on the Game Boy) and Dragon Warrior Monsters 2 split titles of Tara's Adventure and Cobi's Journey (Game Boy Color originating)! the fact that you could link the older DW monster to the pair on the GBC was impressive enough but in order to complete the monster library on the pair of GBC games you not only had to spend massive amouts of time gathering, breeding, and battling monsters but on that game, but there was one monster you CAN NOT GET (legitamately without a gameshark for those of you who would bring it up) and you had to literally had to have the first DWM game beat and link it up with a link cable and one of the DWM2 games to breed to get it. ive played pokemon since the first games red and blue came out and ive never in one game file completed a pokedex, although over many files and games i have, but My copy of Dragon Warrior Monsters 2 Tara's Adventure has over 200 hours of play time recorded and my monster library is 100 % complete and if you are wondering, yes, i have DWM and DWM2 Cobi's Journey and ive beaten them as well (just not the monster library which i wont likely attempt at this point) but DWM2 has around 320 monsters comparitively to pokemon crystal with only 251 on the same system. and i could go all day but i do have a little bit more than just a fantasy to attend to. im waiting with abated breath for DQ 11!

I wish more JRPGs would come to PC. New and old I'd love to see every Dragon Quest, Tales, and Ys game (among many others) on Steam. Games like Tales of Berseria, Nier: Automata, Yakuza 0, Monster Hunter World, likely Dragon Quest 11, and certain Switch games are giving Japanese games more and more of a spotlight in the West and putting them on more platforms will help with that a lot.

Anyone else think this games aesthetics/world etc are similar to Ni No Kuni 2? I have a feeling this game is going to be even better than the masterpiece that was dragon quest 8. I cant describe how i felt playing 8 for the first time. ❤

Is it just me or did anyone else think the beginner commentator was much more enjoyable to listen to and was more well spoken than the expert whom sounded a bit dull (not in a bad way just in comparison)

Imagine playing Chrono Trigger with the same graphics and combat system. I wish I could see the the "dream team" being formed again and develop a remake version.

Zelda BotW has not adapted a western trend. Its openess was already envisioned back in the Game Cube eara and is also rooted in the very first Zelda game. However, they could "only" achieve Wind Waker due to the technical limitations at the time.

Nobody needs the perspective of someone who's never touched a Dragon Quest game before. Japan alone can sustain this franchise, and honestly, I'd prefer that they stop trying to cater rpgs to westerners who get antsy if they can't shoot something every five damn seconds. Dragon Quest doesn't need the west. Top selling franchise in Japanese history. Make games that your loyal fans will appreciate. I'm thankful for the ones you've given us, and the translation patches for others (just saying). America isn't the market for this game. I know my neighbors. I know one person other than me who might love this game.

not everything needs to be an open world game, and while some games can benefit from it, most jrpgs tend to flourish better with guided experiences, but even then, its almost never as guided as some people make it out to be.
