Personally, I don’t need a super innovative story but I prefer a developed plot and fleshed-out characters. It was the little things that made the story and the characters believable. Each POV in Ascendant was distinct and had a unique voice. Objectively it was a different take on a familiar story but because it’s well-written I enjoyed it. I’m 40% into unbound and we get a new POV which just adds an extra layer to the story! Happy reading!

Thank you so much! I agree with you. At the end of the day, fleshed-out characters top over innovative story, imo. Sure it's cool to have them both, but if we're only allowed, definitely choose characters! 😄

I enjoyed Dragon Mage by M.L Spencer (again, thanks to you) I love the concept of the runts of the litters, pairing of the underdogs (How to train your dragon kind of vibe) Also reminds me of Ghost and Jon snow. Plus, always been a sucker for dragons (honestly who isn't) Plus if i'm not wrong it's also a (who dunnit) (betrayal lurking in the shadow conspiracy stuff) (I love mystery) The reason I always have been a fan of Joe Abercrombie's First Law : The character driven story and the setting of the chess board of book 1 doesn't overshadow the journey and the the lore revealed in Book 2 or the epic revelations of the "mastermind" and "the conspiracy" of book 3 (epic Usual Suspects Ending) (Which lacked a bit in the age of madness trilogy) That's why I prefer FIRST LAW (totally unpopular opinion) So I think I'll still wait for you to read book 2 and 3 If you are still hyped by the end and talk about them in the same way you talk about (Memory, Sorrow, and Thorn ) before giving it a try. Or even if it's a Book of the ancestor kind of ending. Great but not necessary fireworks. I'll still take that.
@PetrikLeo
Жыл бұрын
Yeah, I agree. Animal companions and underdogs are something I'll never get enough of. I don't think Age of Madness, even though it's more well-written, is overall better than The First Law trilogy. I will say they're about equal, but my utmost favorite book by Abercrombie will always be Last Argument of Kings. The Blade Itself somehow feels like a comfort read to me now, though, so hard for me to say hahaha.
@yassinemiri3555
Жыл бұрын
@@PetrikLeo You nailed it on the head. “Last argument of Kings” all time favorite. The blade itself was more introductive (it will be hard as a second read for me now that I know everything about the lore and setting) the newness of it all is what made the first one magical for me but it did leave me wanting for more. That’s why I always like to judge a series or trilogy as a whole package. “The blade itself” feels like a longue intro more than an actual book. The ending is the beginning of everyone’s actual journey (take as a double meaning : geographical journey and growth as a character). The main team off to the Old Empire. Sand off to Dagoska and Collem West off to Angland. Second best book is : Better served Cold (undisputedly)
