@@GamingMagic13 9:38 - 10:53: I’ve got a better question; if Daphne *was* taken to another dimension, what makes you think she wouldn’t share some of the information to Dirk that wasn’t from Mordroc? What if she knows as much as he does from reading at the Library in her Castle? Maybe she couldn’t be able to say where she was, because that would ruin Mordroc’s plan to get the essences.

I loved seeing this. This game was the first one I worked on professionally, and it's wonderful to see people really loved it. It was a very small team and we worked on it for several years and with a few ups and downs. Don Bluth and Gary Goldman came out to visit one week and helped a lot with art direction and animation. Anyway, it was a fun project and really got me started in the industry, so I'll always have very fond memories of it. Thanks for the look back, and again, so very happy you enjoyed it.

2:11 That happened with a lot of games. As someone who grew up with a PS2 in the UK, about 65% of my library were games that only released in europe even if they released everywhere on other consoles. Hell, my personal favourite game of all time, Wacky Races PS2 (Which i hold to a very similar status to how you hold Dragon's Layer 3D) was Europe exclusive. I think the reason for this is because shipping and localising the games would have cost too much to justify making the games as well, and that makes this weird dilemma for if people want to revisit the PS2, as if you grew up in the states and had a PS2 then you were missing out. Just make sure you check which europe exclusive games you play, because where some of them are diamonds in the rough like Dragons Lair 3D and the PS2 ports of the Colin McRae Rally games, quite a lot of them are stuck in europe for... a reason. (i'm looking at you, Blast Entertainment.)

God, the Mid '90s - Late 2000s were such a great time for videogames, weren't they? I mean, not only did we get the classics and greats like Gears of War, Halo, the original Spyro and Crash trilogies, Spongebob: BfBB, Destroy All Humans!, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, The golden age of Resident Evil games, Silent Hill 1 - 4: The Room, The Penumbra duology, BioShock, all of BioWare's repetoir during this time and Metal Gear Solid 1, 2 and 4 (I am aware Solid 3 has a sizable following), we also had lesser known titles and overlooked gems like SiN, The Thing, and from the looks of it, Dragon's Lair 3D. I'll definitely download an iso of this from MyAbandonware one of these days. If you liked Dragon's Lair 3D so much, I'd think it's worth exploring other lesser, but still great games; I'd personally recommend the Armored Core franchise (the PS1 titles are ripe for Emulation, ditto for the PS2 era) and the Oddworld series (they're all on PC, and I'd recommend them, particularly Stranger's Wrath, which is basically a perfect entry point).

I never played it back in the day and don't know how much I would have liked it, but I was always fascinated by the art, since games with cel shaded graphics were quite the rarity back in the day. There were a hand full of games like Jet Set Radio or the original XIII, which were actually both really good games, but besides that, the many games with similar graphics did only come out in Japan and didn't make it to the west. So I was always happy when I saw something like that. As said in the video these graphics often hold up really good, while it's also possible that a remake of such a game can look way worse years later if you don't nail the artstyle as happened with XIII.

Appreciate your obvious appreciation for this (now 20 years-old-and-counting) game. I played through it on GameCube years ago and appreciated a lot of its ambition, but don't quite hold it in as high regard as you do. For all the story lore it was trying to work into the franchise, the ending feels anti-climatic after downing Mordroc's dragon form. That said, it would have been a great foundation to build upon for sequels and it's a shame it's all-but fallen into obscurity and abandonware at this point in time. It would be great to see it "remastered" (I use that term cautiously) at the highest video and audio quality possible.

Dude im sorry, you have way over hyped this game in this video. Dont get me wrong, i like it, i played it as a kid as well, so the nostalgia hits hard. But i can objectively look at this game and say its not that good. Its not bad in the sense that most games are, glitches, bugs, unforgiving combat or level design. But its definitely not good. The platforming is really wonky and doesnt feel clean to play. You say the combat isnt just hack and slash, but it really is and you made the combat sound way more complex than what it really is. You can easily get through the game just swinging your sword around. At the beginning of the video you say something along the lines of the game not having a crazy plot and that a simple plot to justify the adventure is just fine in a game like this. Then you go on to make it sound this had a crazy plot or something. Everything you praised about this game, every other game of its time was already doing, and lot of them doing it better. Its not neccessarily bad, but its like a 5/10. I felt like the levels that most closely resembeled what it looked like in the arcade were done really well. They made a platforming game but the platforming is really bad, if they wouldve made it just like the arcade, but instead of reacting to your environment with a button press, you get to actually do the movements, i think it wouldve had a decent following. That probably sounds kinda dumb, but the best eample i can give is levels like the pool room, or the one where youre on a cirlce board decending as the board stops at platforms you can jump off at. Sorry, dont remember the name of that second one. The 2 short clips of the levels at 8:55 are also good exmples. It was so cool decending with your bat wings arond the lava pools and flame throwers, but these sequences are too short lived. The rest of the levels like the lava geysers and the sewer one where you pull the chain and get flooded and die, just dont play out like you would expect them to.
