2:33 It helps that Piccolo converses with Nail, and later Kami. Vegeta never talks back to Ghost Nappa, he only ever reacts to him. Nappa shows up, says a funny thing, and then Ghost Nappa out. The ability to converse lets them play off each other and makes the bit significantly more versatile than Nappa just being a one-liner dispenser.
@gazeboist4535
6 ай бұрын
Absolutely, although that's not just a difference with the way Piccolo's head-ghosts are written, it's a difference in the kind of characters they are. Nappa is a high-energy ball of nonsense who struggles to say anything that's not a punchline, so he ends up pulling focus any time he's in a scene. Nail and Kami are just a couple of chill dudes, so the scene can be about something else while they just vibe in Piccolo's head - and given what's usually going on in Dragon Ball, "two guys vibing while the plot happens" is almost guaranteed to be hilarious in its own right.

The introduction of zenkai boosts, also really make it a problem. Like, Goku trains at 100x gravity, and comes out of it like, ten times stronger. Sure! Goes in line with the theme of the show. Vegeta gets his ass kicked a few times, and becomes like twenty times stronger. Then Ginyu gets Goku's ass kicked for him, and that boost like, makes all his training look like nothing. Doesn't he go from somewhere around 100,000 to well into the millions from that?

@n00bowser

To be fair, we don't know how much stronger he got training with King Kai. Of course, in the Abridgedverse, he did not get stronger at all because King Kai is a dick. The scaling still make sense, because power levels are canonically bullshit.
@TheInfiniteAmo
Жыл бұрын
The logic in the Saiyan Saga, that kind of fell off, is that weak races like Humans could figure out techniques that would rapidly multiply their power levels to make up for being naturally very weak, whereas strong races like Saiyans just relied on transformation as a shortcut. I still think the kernel of that idea played into the idea of 'Mystic' Gohan, but got corrupted into needing to be a transformation due to editing demands.

The Roshi vs. Jiren scene in the DBS manga is easily the best moment in all of Dragon Ball Super, manga or anime. It's an inspiring scene that harkens back to not just Goku's journey up to this point, but also briefly returns the story to its martial arts roots and themes. It even transitions to Goku's Ultra Instinct in such a more appropriate way than the anime. It's such a terrific moment, yet whenever it gets brought up, somebody is going on about the power levels, utterly missing the whole point. It just reverts the conversation to pointing out some arbitrary "plot hole" that doesn't even exist. This isn't why the story is written this way, and good on Toyotarou for acknowledging that! Power levels really are bullsh*t. Not just for story, but the discussion around it.

The thing about weighted armor, I'm pretty sure it makes a difference, because it roughly doubles how much weight he has to move to fight, which slows him down

When he's able to move two ton boulders off himself and like lift pyramids with his aura I don't think a hundred extra kilos would do much more than give his tackles more of a kick.

@@WildBluntHickok Piccolo moves his body at a certain speed, when pushing himself to move as fast as possible to land as many punches as possible, yes? Taking off weight halves the weight he has to pull, so he can move much faster and fight much better

I would have liked to seen that inaudible monologue from Freeza, maybe you could post the script somewhere? In general I really like getting behind the scenes info from these and if I do have some constructive criticism for these commentaries, it's that I wish we got more of that. I think we did in Season 1, but I think as you all move into the latter half of S2, you are both happier with the end product so a lot more time is spent on enjoying your work (which is cool!) and less on what the intent was or why you did it that way or what the unused alternatives were.

Form 3 Freeza’s head is larger, lengthening his vocal tract, thereby lowering it - hence the Kai change.

I think Vegeta wanting to run away from Freeza runs a bit deeper than him just being kinda cowardly. Think about it. Freeza's pretty much his dad. And for a lot of us... we can talk all the shit we want. But when dad comes with his belt... we know we're screwed. It's kinda like Gohan instantly freezing when someone shouts DODGE.

I had an instance similar to the 'miraculously repopulated' line flub. In my KZitem series Kashingkan, my dad was voicing a character and the line was "They will need your help to have any chance at success." My dad couldn't say "chance at success" to save his life. After a ton of takes, I tweaked the script: "They will need your help to succeed."

As I learned about it as a kid, Namekian fusion is a better deal than the Dance, as it isn't 3+3=6. Namekian fusion results in a greater result than the sum of it's part. More like 3x3=9. At least that's how my Big brother explained it too me when I questioned how Piccolo was winning.

I know I'm being "that guy" but I'd like to point out that weighted armor does not become useless as characters gain power. It adds a percentage to total character weight, which would scale as character movement speed increases. In terms of using the force of default gravity to train, yes it becomes inconsequential. In terms of overall acceleration and the forces involved it scales just fine.

Honestly, given what Dragon Ball became, and the fact one has to be speedy, agile, and strong, weighted clothing can still be relevant in Dragon Ball given how many times acrobatics and reflexes matter now.
