I am a fan of you guys and your efforts. It takes guts to get out there no matter what the results. Don't ever hesitate to ask other racers for advice. I've solved many issues just talking it through with others. Fuel delivery could be the issue. The motor isn't building RPM--plus stumbling--which could be one of several things. You mentioned intake but that would only make less power up top and you wouldn't have the bog you are experiencing. Yours could be carburetor tuning (float level, accelerator pump tweaks, jetting, hi-speed air bleeds, etc.) plus some ignition tweaking (timing, advance rate if not fixed pickup point, bad cap, bad plugs, bad wires, low voltage). Always look for the simplest things first. We once had a friend run about like you did only to discover his distributor wasn't tight so he was losing degrees of timing each pass. Once corrected, by the end of the evening he hit 177 MPH in the 7.70 range quarter mile. No doubt the rectangular port heads will outflow the oval ports above .600 lift but they are not the panacea for a BBC. Check out the Richard Holdener video on oval port heads (he also compares rectangular ports). It's an eye opener. Keep posting your results. You will get there.

Thanks we appreciate it! Our intake runners are not at a very good angle and we believe fuel could be puddeling up there causing some weird things. We decided to go with a high rise intake to help that problem but that was a minor problem looking at the big picture. We also now have a cam to match the carb!! We plan on going to test again in three weeks and we will upload another video.

You can weld the weight in your distributor to lock in the timing so it's not advancing on its own we do it with all of our msd ignition systems on my asphalt and dirt alcohol modifieds
