What is the biggest hydraulic flat tap cam to use for a nice lope fair to a little rough idle for a small block Chevy 350. Without going mod crazy. Don’t like the over cam sound of a car being to over cam and not geared correctly. What I mean by mod crazy is getting into stall converters big carbs and rear end gears. I’m looking for something that is street and strip with a hiccup idle. I’m using factory heads dual plane intake 650 carb and headers with factory DEI ignition. I’m building something to pull out of the garage every so often to polish up and set in my lawn chair with a beer and just listen to it as it lopes using factory GM parts. Maybe lay down rubber every blue moon.
@Shop209

@@jasonthomas8515 with factory heads that are 76cc you’ll likely have 8.5:1 compression at best. The lopey idle comes from overlap. With stock converter and unknown gears I’d suggest something like a COMP 268 XE. Your best bet is to call a good cam company and tell them what you have and your goals.

Great Job on the track and great numbers on the Dyno. 10's are in reach for sure. I bet Having control over the timing with the Holley will give your the best shot. I'm running an HEI right now and while its dead reliable, I think the HP ecu with the Terminator Stealth tb really wants that control up top to get every hp. Maybe the carb was more forgiving but that could just be my brain on Double pumper fumes. :P

Good to see you in good shape. For lihgting, i used 90/100 sealed beams, and added 4 fused relays to maximum current flow. They are really bright, but regulations may require less powerful lights in your area. I also recently installed 75 watts sealed and relays in a truck, really powerful beam. Avoid all the blue "white" crap.

@@Shop209 Oh and that combo would be perfect for a 200R4 transmission swap. That should get you in the 10s no problem. The first gear is a bit better than the th350 has, 2.52 vs 2.78 for the 200R4. Should get you off the line a bit better plus with overdrive and a lockout switch it would pay for itself driving to and from the track even if you run the same numbers. Final drive ratio would be 2.747:1 with a 200R4 for your highway cruising pleasure. Should be good with your current power output but if you're planning on making more get one that is rated for more. I think they sell them rated for as much as 800 HP, but if you're at that level you'll probably want to trailer that puppy so.......? I love my 700R4 behind my sbc 383, has a hydraulic roller with decent lift but low duration for the low end torque for my '65 Impala to get that land barge moving. Works great and gets 26 mpg highway and around 20 city when keeping my foot on the light side. The 700R4 knocked off a full second off of the QM times after ditching the Powerglide that blew up. I don't think going from a th350 to the 200R4 will drop a second for you but maybe a few tenths? It will save you a bundle in gas though.😎👍

With your headlights, I'm hoping you don't put in something that makes it look like it has cataracts. Lol. Some LED lights do that. As for going faster, you've got more knowledge of how to do that then me, so I can only say that if you have coil overs, maybe bring the ride height down with those, and I'm hearing that the 90/10 drag shocks are good for launching the car. I would say bring a parts holder trailer, but I forgot if you have a hitch on the car.
