Thanks for the awesome review Peter! Great to hear how much attention it got while on your wrist 😊. A couple things of things to note: The launch of the Aoraki is TOMORROW! I think at the time you edited the video I had set the launch date for April, but have since moved it forward. The blue AR coating is here to stay. I personally love the blue tint. There is no small seconds dial layout in the Miyota 9-series, so it had to be the 8-series. The only difference between 8 and 9 series as far as I can tell, is the higher beat rate. The finishing and accuracy of the 8 series is very impressive. Have a good one! Mike

What a handsome watch. Love the knurling on the signed crown. Probably the biggest thing I noticed, and it is a really nice idea, the "Assembled in New Zealand" statement is actually engraved or printed on the rehaut. That helps to keep the dial clean and uncluttered. I've always been a fan of bund straps, it fits this style of watch perfectly.

Hi Peter, I have purchased one of these watches from my homeland New Zealand. Since purchasing it has been my daily go to watch. I have alternated between the leather Bund and the supplied Zulu strap. I love the Bund, it is very comfortable. I have various disabilities and this watch has not been difficult to live with. The crystal is very clear, almost invisible and I can read the watch from many angles. Your review was one of the motivators for my purchase. Thanks for a very helpful review. Cheers Mike

I really like it. You featured the pick of the 4 for me. It would be amazing on a nice standard leather strap. I do wish it just said New Zealand. Rather that assembled.

I hear you. I waffled back and forth on this one for a while.....several hours, actually. I'm not a fan of buying a watch sight-unseen. In the end, though, I figured for $349, how can you go wrong? If I hate it, I'll give it to my son or one of my non-watch buddies. If I love it, who knows, maybe I'll wear it every day in the summertime. It is a handsome watch, any way you look at it. My tastes have matured over the years, and I have come to the conclusion that NO watch is perfect in every regard, but again, for $349, I've bought dumber watches for much, much more money, lol. Good luck to you on your journey, and have a good day.

Another refreshing and innovative design by Draken. I love bund straps. The only suggestion I would have is that the straps of the bund attach to spring bars, allowing for only a single layer under the watch. This is the case with my Tudor Heritage Ranger and it sits very close to the wrist, especially as the leather softens and conforms to your wrist. Thanks for another great review, Pete.

It's a chunky boy. It is great value for what you get. It looks a lot like the Alpina Seastrong I was working on over the weekend. You have the absence of chapter markers on that ring as mine are slightly off by 2 degrees. This watch doesnt have the blue antiglare tint. Is on a rubber strap with a 300 m depth rating and 28,800 bph AL 520. Looking on EBay it has a value of $800 - $1200. So, for almost the same watch as this Draken is excellent with price. Hope you get to keep that watch too.

Nice military style watches, I would have liked to have seen one with a rail road minute track and a slightly bigger sub dial to look like the iconic dirty dozen watch, don’t particularly like blue AR coating and the brand on the case but nevertheless a lovely series of watches Glad they didn’t use fake patina lume Great review as always Pete 👍

Very nice watch! I like the way the put "Assembled in New Zealand" on the rehaut. To my knowledge "Aoraki" is the Maori word for the country's highest mountain, aka Mount Cook. The tall presence on the bund strap is an easy fix: ditch the bund strap!

This is a terrific watch in my opinion. Cheap as chips, nicely designed case with some detailing, sapphire crystal, AR, good dimensions, two straps, tried and tested automatic movement, good lume, rugged, will patina nicely. Not a negative as such but I’m not a fan of those broad leather bund straps. Did you try it on the leather strap minus the bund component? I think it would look cleaner and less high on the wrist. Also ‘assembled in New Zealand’ I would change to just ‘New Zealand’ personally. I hope they do well I still want that god damn Monta

Speaking of hobby. I’d rather be patient and save my money for top well recognized brands. If you want to go with incognito brands sky is the limit and there are a million watchmakers from all over the world out there. No time and nerve to discover and experience them all this is why I choose to just sit back relax and watch videos about them and be content for what I have in possession💁🏻

Having seconds hand at 6H you won't notice 3Hz. Also it is a vintage watch style, so 3Hz fits perfect. I guess 9000series would thinner the case a bit. I just do not like the AR being on the outside too. The nature of this watch makes it prone to scratches and bye-bye AR coat.

Really nice look! The height is definitely affected by the faraday cage. My Damasko is like that as well. Curious your thoughts comparing the Miyota 8000 series compared to the NH35/ 36. Don’t know if Seiko makes a small seconds version of that movement… curious about people’s thoughts comparing the movements themselves though…

Personally Ive never had any issues with the 8 Series Miyota or the NH35's I think as solid entry level automatics they are designed to be tough and durable I wouid have loved to see an 9 series Miyota though..but then the price would have also increased.

Striking pieces, for sure. It's probably the "vector" variant for me - total sucker for an arrow hand - but the "zulu" hands have some funk to 'em as well. I can see the split opinion on the side engraving, but considering how many watches we enthusiasts end up juggling* perhaps it's for the best to have the name easily accessible. * This channel is NOT helping.

Great looking pieces but the printing is a little sloppy. @7:58 you can see the index above the 2 is jagged, while the 7 has a small pit on the long side. You can also see the lume is not fully applied missing the tip of the seconds hand. You get what you pay for I suppose. I know you disclosed the video is sponsored, and you also said the vendor doesn’t have a bearing on your review. But I’ve seen a few of your other videos and I know you have an eye for detail, so I don’t understand how such glaring issues escaped your discerning eye.
