On the 21st of February 2019, the Drakenstein Farm watch volunteer fire fighter group in Paarl WC South Africa, received a distress call from the authorities, about a run-away fire out of control, threatning the pitoresk vilage of Franschhoek a mere 25 KM away.
Although the Franschhoek area is not the operational ground of the volunteer fire fighter group, the management team decided, given the severity of the situation, to deploy all available resources to the scene.
the call-out for the volunteers to assist, was broadly taken and within 20 min after the call-out, the teams were on their way.
In the volunteer group, who are well trained and fully capable of tackling such fire, we also find medical doctors, first aiders and mechanical ingenieurs, ex policeman, electricians etc. ready to tackle anything.
The fire fight lasted until the early morning hours and to everybodies surprise, no buildings were lost and no injuries reported or taken. This can be called a miracle.
The Drakenstein Farm watch group, assisted many other official fire fighting teams and as one family the flames were conquered.
The use of many drakenstein Farm watch SUV 4x4 700 liter water units and the big 4x4 8000 liter ex-militarry water tankers with their massive water canons hosed enough foam and water to stop the fire in its tracks.
the Drakenstein Farm watch fire fighter group specializes in wildfires and medical rescue in the rural area of Paarl and Wellington. The places of action are mostly remote farms or area's where there is no water available, hence the special equipment and 4x4 vehicles and trucks.
This film was made to honor the brave man and woman who went out to safe others.
