Killer opening - a nice, professional, eye-poke to all the click bait semi-commercial KZitem cruising channels. Cracked me up now that I “know” you two. Thanks again for allowing us to cruise with you. We're 1200 miles away from our boat (Hatteras 58YF) in Arizona for the winter. Sure miss cruising the waters of the PNW... One of our most memorable cruises was the week after Christmas until just after New Years. Seemed to have the waters to ourselves.

With Covid we were by ourselves a lot this summer, now that it's winter, we are really by ourselves. Only an occasional commercial fish boat, tug or ferry on the water. I don't think we have seen another cruising boat since mid-September. Glad you are enjoying the videos. They are a lot of fun to make. I'm not sure how long we can maintain the once a week pace. After Christmas we plan to take off and be at anchor, and thus out of contact for a month or so. The plan is to go to Tracy Arm and see how far up the arm we can get before the ice stops us, then on to Juneau to visit with friends then maybe out to Glacier Bay. Thanks for watching, Jim

@@CruisingSeaVenture We'll keep watching as long as you keep producing videos. It's therapeutic for those of us that are reluctantly land-locked. We lived aboard full time for three years. We went from a 4500sq.ft house to the boat. The boat is my favorite home. Well... enjoy your winter anchorage. We look forward to more videos as they are available. Bob

I always look forward to your videos. Some of the questions on your Q&A are pretty amusing. I also knew you would get hammered for the crab processing. You handled it really well and it will be interesting to see how your experiment turns out. As in every boating vlog and forum the question always comes up referencing "boat" and "investment" in the same sentence. Again, you handled it so well. For a couple basically isolated most of the year it is great to see that you are not losing those people skills that made you so successful in your previous endeavors. You've really earned the right to enjoy yourselves now. Thank you so much for sharing it with us.

Great video guys. I have a question for you. Now that you are in southern Alaska for the winter and anchoring out when the outside temperatures are getting pretty uncomfortable how do you heat Sea Venture while at anchor? Do you run the generator and use some form of electric heating? Or are you using your newly installed lithium battery banks to provide the energy source for the heaters? Thanks again for your inspiring videos Mike
@CruisingSeaVenture
3 жыл бұрын
Mike, Great Question. In September we installed a diesel furnace in the boat. When we came to Alaska this year we knew it was a possibility that we would stay for the winter, so we ordered one before we left and had it sitting in the box in the boat all summer. We are glad we did. It has worked great, and kept the boat nice and warm and dry. It uses about 1 gallon of diesel per 24 hours - not very much at all. We installed it in the engine room with ducts into the salon and our cabin downstairs. The ductwork in the engine room lets off enough radiant heat that it has also kept the engine room at about 55 degrees as well. Thanks for watching, Jim

@CruisingSeaVenture
3 жыл бұрын
Hi Norman. That’s the thing about fishing and crabbing it’s all great in the moment and then there’s a lot of cleaning, cooking, vacuum sealing to do. The white smoke comes and goes. I think it has a lot to do with the outside temperature and humidity level, causing some steam in the exhaust in combination with idling when we’re fishing. Ford Lehman 120s, our engines, do not stay at temperature at idle, which I believe contributes as well. As always, thanks for watching and commenting, Jim

@@CruisingSeaVenture Yeah I figured it might be a combination of low power and atmospherics. Do you go down to one engine when trolling?

We do at times. It just depends how fast we want to troll. With both engines in idle we go about 2.5 knots, with one engine about 1.5 knots with no current. Thanks, Jim

Hi, Later we realized after catching the halibut that we didn't film any of it. Hopefully next time. We often think, "oh, that would have been nice to film". So, we catch what we catch on film and miss some stuff too. We got the spin on filters from Harbor Marine in Everett, WA. Here is their website: www.harbormarine.net We run 2 micron filters in our Racor 500 filter, so we don't really have a need to change the spin on inline filters often. Thanks for watching, Jim

Return on investment and a boat, that was good for a laugh. That's simple, if your concerned about investments, don't own a boat or buy a rowboat. But if you want a nice boat and some toys, and can afford one. Before taking the big dirt nap, I say go for it,. You come into this world with no investments and as near as I can tell, you go out with the same. At some point in life, those investment should be for providing memories . I can say I am enjoying YOUR memories. BTW I would love to be WRONG about all of this. If you figure out a way to port over those investment into the next life, please share in a private email. I assure you I can keep your secret. Just don't expected me to vouch for all those people I tell.. For just once I could be one up on my fidelity advisor. 🤔 🤣.
