I thought I was the only one who didn't enjoy Love is Sweet. Despite it's above average production, I didn't like how trope-y it was. The scriptwriters made it more like a "let's make every side character have a secret crush on the main leads" and a "but let's also make them evil and try to destroy the main leads." I thought the chemistry was better between the female lead and second male lead. No hate to the actors.

I managed to finish Love is Sweet, but I was 2x it and skipping any of the work scenes. I enjoyed the chemistry between the two main leads and that was the main reason why I kept on watching the show. But then the show gave too much emphasis on the side couple which I was not interested in, on the back stories of the second male lead and his sister which I was not interested in, and on the cases they worked at the company which I was not interested in (because they just seemed too unrealistic and too "easy"). I appreciated the portrayal of an adult relationship in a drama for once. They actually kissed and didn't do that awkward 5 second lip touching. The woman was independent and career driven (despite receiving a lot of help from the male lead and getting unrealistic "shortcuts"). They talked about problems after a fight and not just kiss and suddenly the problem is solved. They acknowledged that they had shortcomings and portrayed (though just a little) the struggles of working with someone from the same competitive industry. The relationship was not perfect (the male lead dismissing the female lead's job offer, hello HR where are you?!) but I saw growth, which is important.

Agree. Her smiling seemed so out of place with the circumstances it made her seem incredibly vapid. And it's hard to care about a romance when you aren't sure the main FL has a brain cell worth saving.

I’m glad to hear that you don’t force yourself to finish dramas just because you think we (viewers) require it. Both of the costume dramas you mentioned were giving me the same “meh” feelings and I feel reassured that they wouldn’t be changing. Sometimes, a drama is worth fighting the “blahs” for - but sometimes not.

After watched your explanation about the modern drama I noticed it's quite similar to drama-melayu-pukul-7, which the plot almost always rich vs not-very-rich couple with unrealistic story line and story set up. But I finished watched love is sweet, because they are such eye candy. The same reason I finished ruyi. But I have to say ruyi is quite loose in story writing and plot. Like how easy to find the suppose-to-be-secret-room, I just finished oh my sweet liar, at least in that drama they try to make the secret space more conceal. The ruyi organization at 1st it look mysterious but then it just meh. But I love 2nd couple, they much more interesting than main couple. The character of FL is not very consistent, sometimes she smart but sometimes she doesn't. The supporting character so annoying at times.

I enjoyed “The Moon Brightens For You.” The story was pretty straightforward and not annoying. Unfortunately, they could have picked better actors to play the leads. The male lead, because of how the character was written, needed an actor who is oozing with charisma. The second male lead wasn’t bad.

I’m new to the channel though so I’m not sure if you’d enjoy Begin Again, I hate tropes too but this drama didn’t play into the tropes that much. I just really loved the affection the main couple had for each other. I just love the little reactions you give after certain remarks they just make your videos so much more fun to watch xD I lost it with what you did when you talked about the actor going from stony to wooden LOL. Personally, I'm a fan of Luo Yunxi and was really excited for Love is Sweet because it's been a while since he's been in a modern drama. Plus I happen to like Bai Lu too. But unfortunately for some reason, I just can't get into it even after 8-9 episodes. I don't see myself looking forward to the next episode. Not really sold on their relationship either. Even the supposedly "sizzling" moments between them just make me feel... lukewarm. Well, the drama is put on hold now. I feel like I have other better things to watch. Really a pity since I really like all 4 main characters :(

fair xing's portrayal of a happy-go-lucky persona through the drama is a bit exhausting. you wonder when she will ever take things seriously, but she is actually very observant. she lost a good portion of the 'fake" persona after the GREAT event happened.

Agreed.. I think the problem was she was overacting the happy, free spirited part and , like mentioned, too fake, too bouncy, and her frozen wide smile was so odd it took me out of the drama.. I love you bring this issue I remember watching some video cut of "Love and Redemption", every time the female lead crying and screaming scenes, she's screaming, but, no tears coming out from her eyes. Why she can't did that? She's an actress I love Chinese Dramas, their actors and actresses indeed very good looking, but.... the story plots and the formula are just too repetitive Repetitive story ideas: - Very dumb girl with the smartest boy (not ordinary dumb, like the dumbest in whole school or class) - Time travel girl from the future to the past (mostly will be paired with the King or Prince) - Very rich businessman/CEO (harsh, cold, handsome, smart, antisocial) with an unknown ordinary girl (cheerful, "unattractive" (even though played by very beautiful actress) and sociable) - Girl crossdressing as boy - Very famous idol or actor with an ordinary girl (from Nothing Hill, I got it. Please enough already) - Contracted marriage (modern time) and arrange married (ancient time) Repetitive scenes and plots - The idea of plotting the main lead to stay under the same roof - Kabedon -"I'll catch you if you fall" (where the female lead fall unrealistically and got caught by the male lead) - Accidental kiss - Fighting, separated, and get together again at 3/4 part of the whole series to drag the story

I dropped Ruyi around ep 14 or something. Don't even rmb. I feel like this drama is just a fan service for the fans that liked the CP in Yunxi. It's the same production crew hence why it's similar story to Yunxi. The actress can use some new change in costume styles. Her look here looks exactly the same as In a Class of Her Own. There was news floating online of comparing her costumes and makeup in three diff dramas...that they all look the same and couldn't differentiate which drama was which. Her acting definitely improved but still not up to standard.

(I wrote many things. Sorry for my un-grammarly(?) rant) I just finished Begin Again and i could endure all the overused plot just to see Gong Jun's handsome apeearance (eventhough it seems so unnatural for a doctor to be that flawless everytime, and as a famous doctor in the hospital he had toooo many leisure time, it's impossible) I have many things to critique about this drama. But i think it's slightly better than love is sweet. I didn't finish even half of it. Maybe it's because i love gong jun so much in WoH, idk. But i wanted to know, why almost all chinese drama in romantic comedy genre like this? It's too unrealistic. For example: how the mc and ml have a perfect eyeliner, mascara, and hair just after they wake up, even after they cried the night before. And can they please tone down the romantic scene? It's imposible for people to think about their romantic life 24/7. And it's impossible for a doctor to have so many idle time, go home on time every day. Etc etc. For once, i really want to enjoy chinese romantic comedy drama 🥲 idk when that will happen.

I gave up on Love is Sweet because the overall feel was too cringey. I found it more comforting to go watch vids of corgis running and maine coone cats chirping. I gave up on both ancient dramas for the exact reasons AX listed. I found Xing Fei's smiles to be slightly creepy. For Ruyi, I was offended by the white faces and red lips on the actresses...like ugh. For both dramas, I stopped watching in the middle of early episodes and decided it was more worthwhile to study advanced sudoku techniques instead. At least that stimulates my mind. There's another one that I dropped...oh Jiu Li Overlord or something like that...the one with Bai Lu. I knew I was bored with it because I actually started working on a puzzle in the middle of an episode lol...even though I need subtitles to understand. There's probably a bunch of others that I dropped but I can't remember because they failed to make any impression. I know I dropped them because I just finished watch three seasons of Back to the Fields lolol, watching famous people eating and doing chores and marveling at Huang Lei's cooking was clearly more interesting.

Im just so so surprised that all the drama you've given up is exactly the drama I've been given up too lol😂I'm not judging but Xingfei smiles on The Moon Brightens For You really does make me feel a bit weird?😂she has done a pretty good job on her role but I don't know why,I just want to quit the drama. And one thing that I notice is the actress and actor of all the drama is pretty popular. And I think maybe the drama is being recognized because they're popular? and also because of the storyline,it was all predicted.Just like I already expect that thing will happen and when it really happen,I lost courage to watch it🙏😹The drama these days not much like the drama on the previous year. It don't really have the thing/scene that will make people to hold onto it and watch till the end which is a bit disappointing but there's still so much good drama that we can watch.

I enjoyed watching Ruyi Pavilion. Where else can you find an Asian drama where the heroine’s reply, when asked by the male lead what would have been if they had not met, was “I’d be single and managing Ruyi Pavilion”. A thoroughly modern answer by a heroine who is not clingy and waiting for her knight (or prince) in shining armor. I found the jewelry competition, and small cliffhangers throughout kept me interested. The fact that she trusts the villain completely also creates some trepidation and tension - I find myself saying “Oh, no!” often. Other things I like are the sweet romance between the second leads. Also, the main and second leads are such eye candy

It's always enjoyable and enlightening to listen to your commentaries. I agree with your comments on Love Is Sweet, which is the only drama that I have watched so far, among those that you've mentioned here. I felt that it dragged on and on and became boring. Okay, the main leads were practically living together, so where is it going now? Even Bailu's acting seemed tired at times, you predictably know how she would act in a certain situation. The second lead's romance was meh! The female second lead was alternatively embarrassing and annoying that you don't feel empathy towards her. Now that I've heard your critiques on the other dramas, I wouldn't waste my time on them. Thanks for the warning bells!
