And that’s because his vocal tachnique sucks, when you are on your 20s you can sing evrithing but when you go out of your 30s your phisique change and you must learn how to behave. The worst thing about his technique is to push a lot and throw out the tongue when he goes on the high notes

@enearicci7094 Not really. It's because of the food poisoning incident in 1994. The doctor ordered him to rest his voice for 6 months, and the guys in dream theater (mostly Mike portnoy) forced him to tour anyways. He caused serious damage to his voice. If that didn't happen, his voice would've still deteriorated a bit, but he would've probably sounded like his 1993 self at least until around 2010

James Labrie Tinha uma voz encantadora! Cantava muitíssimo bem. Cantava notas extremamente altas sem nenhum problema. Seu timbre de voz era lindo e marcante. Quando ouço os álbuns Images and Words e Awake, eu me impressiono bastante e não me canso de ouvir a sua voz. Pena que na época da Turnê do Awake o mesmo teve uma intoxicação alimentar que causou o incidente em suas cordas vocais. E principalmente, pela idade. Pois o mesmo não é mais aquele garoto de 20 poucos anos. E hj o mesmo não consegue cantar como cantava há 30 anos atrás. Mas, fica às lembranças com estes belos vídeos.

He tore his cords, fucked up his nasal cavity, which is a big part of his technique and used rasp without proper technique and applying it to high note. Plus constant touring

No. Kevin Moore quit around July 1994, and none of the other band members saw it coming, although in retrospective, they said that he had been getting more distant and less involved in the songwriting. Portnoy has said that Space-Dye Vest probably wouldn't have been included on Awake if they knew well in advance that Moore was leaving.

unfortunately James had a very bad accident in 1994 that injured very badly his vocal chords. that's why his voice is not that beautiful as it was back in early '90s
