David Gilmour's solo on this song is, IMO... one of the greatest ever recorded in rock music and Petrucci did it justice! Excellent!
@scottmurdock01z
4 жыл бұрын
JP probably shredded it out during rehearsals, listened 2 a recording of the rehearsal and decided against shredding during the shows. ppl who think Petrucci can only shred need to listen to "another day". I see a link to a DT cover of "hey you". I think I'll check it out. IIRC, there's no room 4 "shredding" or other guitar fireworks in that one.
@kingcrimson234

Gilmour is a brilliant guitarist. He's not some technical wizard like JP, but the best artists usually aren't. Hackett also comes to mind. The best just know how to produce timeless music. I'm glad John played this one as it was meant to be played instead of showing off. JP is brilliant in his own right, but this song calls for a more deliberate performance, and he nailed it! Not that I would have expected any less...
@mezzaninex
4 жыл бұрын
@@kingcrimson234 Yeah, I agree with all that, now it might be blashpemy for me to say but because of JP being the technical wizard, I actually think when it comes to a live setting he sounds better than Gilmour. He has the ability that almost no guitarist has, which is making a live version sound like the mixed and mastered studio version.

Check out "gruhak" covering pink floyd..you will be happy you did. Also have to say that DT being in the business for a couple of decades I am fairly certain James is aware he sounds nothing like David or Roger for that matter nor could he. So the only other logical conclusion is that it is out of their veneration for PF they play it the best they can, that is exactly what they did. Pink Floyd is audibly an influence on some DT songs as well.

This is Dream Theater. DT is a progressive rock band that started in the late 80's. They are all amazing musicians and have wrote some great music although the stuff they write is not very radio friendly so not too many people in the mainstream know of them. Occasionally at the end of one of their concerts they will pick an album and play it in it's entirety. They have also covered Metallica's Master of Puppets. Good stuff.
