rising feels like the spiritual sequel to break the wall (it even borrowed a melody from break the wall at one point) and i adore it

At first glance you could think this is about them being proud and happy with themselves, about confidence. I don't think that is it though. I have no idea if my theory is correct, but the fact that the album is called VersuS VillainS makes me think it is not this simple. So I believe this song is meant as a criticism of narcissism, vanity, materialism and also (maybe) the fast fashion industry. "OOTD" stands for "Outfit of the Day" after all, maybe useless instagram influencers posting videos of their outfit of the day, which also promotes fast fashion. The fact that fashion is moving ever faster is actually the most destructive industry to the planet apart from the fossil fuel industry. The Aral lake has all but disappeared because of the cotton industry for example. It would fit to the Villain image, and you can see in the MV that they are acting. It is shown in the scene where Yoohyeon and Handong are fighting, but then the camera is off and Handong helps Yoohyeon up. The main reason why I don't think it is about confidence or their own success is the line "Driving on the highway, drunken everyday, do you feel like a monster?" and the album title. That just doesn't fit. And there was the ymenehcra account posting about touching a crown is dangerous and other cryptic messages before the comeback. It could also be a big and well-hidden F*U to the Kpop industry, like the Nightmare arc probably was. The narcissism and materialism is definitely criticized here, and Dreamcatcher have been criticized a lot themselves because of their rock/metal concept, while other groups have been celebrated for using a guitar riff once in a song. The music is highly interesting as well. There still is rock there, but dialed back. The song structure is not what you'd expect at all, for me it is punk rock meets K-Pop. Not their usual spiel, but a very good progression. It takes a couple of listens to really appreciate it.

got the same thougths. DC is diving into the mind of the Villains as to expose the fakes, lies of major industries in directing the way people behave. to me, it is continuation from Odd Eye (fake social media life) but more focus on fashion and lifestyle. It is DC which we love, so it is not as simple as it looks. always have meaning in their songs. and I think, all the b-sides also corelate to OOTD. Rising is about rising above the the lies and fakeness. Shatter is about wanting to be free from all those fakeness. WAY is about the positiveness after breaking free. just my 2cents.

About the abrupt ending of Shatter, Siyeon mentioned that the song is about Medusa so the last sentence ends midway because she's already "turned into the stone" :D

If you used to listen to Ateez, OOTD would sound like a familiar banger. I'm so happy with all the B-sides tho

Outstanding EP. This may be easily leading the charge for EOY (EP of the Year), at least up to four songs. It just doesn't feel right to put it in the same category of Weeekly, tripleS, CRAXY or XG's mini albums. Curiously, I found "Rising" the least interesting track on the EP, and it feels like a gift for OG Dreamcatcher fans who might find the rest of the songs hard to digest. With the exception of the aforementioned "Rising", every other track felt like a total surprise, something you had never heard before from them. I'm not familiar with Dreamcatcher whole discography, so I could be wrong, but this EP sounded very fresh and exciting. I'll be revisiting this for sure.

I love this album. But I would say No Dot is fairly close to Shatter and Can't Get You Out Of My Mind is close to We Are Young.

For OST Saturdays, consider: Secret Playlist - Rocket Punch - “Paradise” Castaway Diva - WINTER (aespa) - “Voyage” A Good Day to be a Dog - MeloMance - “The Secret Between Us” My Demon - NewJeans - “Our Nights are more Beautiful than your Days” Boyhood - Norazo - “Double of Nothing” [🙏👀💖] (it's rather DIFFERENT than the normal OSTs, in other words, it's classic Norazo)
