Dougie Thompson is so underrated! his basslines are always right on the spot for the songs. See him plays live, he keeps moving to the groove!

He and Queen’s John Deacon were both exceptionally underrated. Both wrote and played complex and creative bass lines. Both had parts which were as memorable in the song as the pianos or sax/clarinet/flute were. Dougie left so much space as well. He had incredible guts to not feel like needed to play for the entirely if the song.

Yes! Dougie T. is one the Tastiest, Clever Bass players of that period (1974-1984) The bass line in every Supertramp song is so solid (it has to be) BUT also so Interesting... He always threw in cool, little curveballs here & there... Thanks for laying this out Sam! you are pretty awesome too!

I've been playing along with you:) After about 3 times at 75% tempo I bumped up to 100%. Got it! It's fun and a nice exercise to play for discipline:) Fun! Thanks for your guidance:)

Very nice job on this cover but I have a question, did you purposefully simplify the bass line at 0:55 ? Because on the original song, i hear Gb-G-Ab-A-B-C-C# instead of Gb-Gb-A-A-B-C-C# making it more chromatic and funky I think.

Merci beaucoup !!
