It is easy for me to get underwhelmed with robot talk but the clear, precise and fairly complete dialog, keeps me watching until the end. thanks for this very informative video.

I've watched a lot of how-to videos, and I have to say that this is the most informative, in-depth presentation of logically and concisely organized pertinent information I have ever seen. I was just trying to find out if a rotary tool could help me fix my glasses, and now I'm wondering how I lived without a rotary tool for all these years. Very impressive, dude! Subbed, of course!

I just got a 4000 and read the instructions...i fumbled with just getting the shank into the device, cuz that little metal piece was stuck in the collet. I finally picked it out and now it goes in/out easily. If If found your post earlier, I could have saved a bunch of frustration...thank you!

I recently had to begin learning how to use a Dremel (4000ish) to do some very fiddly wood shaping. My recommendation: Fix your work piece using a vise or clamp. Double-sided adhesive tape for small pieces also works. Use both hands to hold the Dremel (even using a flex shaft) and have one hand rest on a solid support with the other hand moving the Dremel. Oh, and eye protection, eye protection, eye protection. I had one of these cutting disks shatter as shown in the video. PS: So that is how you use these white cottony disks.

Enjoyed that; I think we are still allowed to enjoy tech stuff. Those Dremel small diameter collets are interesting. The bore seems poorly centred. Have you noticed? Usually collets are used for greater accuracy over chucks; and with high speeds, so to reduce the spinning peripheral mass. But again: have a look at the small collet. Have been hoping to set up a drill press with an x/y table. Are the tolerances good enough? Thanks; and again, enjoyed video. Don't go 'a-viking'.
@rotarycrafts8760

Thanks. I will look into the collets to see if I can make it center better. There is a little bit of play when using the drill press setup. So it is not the best for high accuracy work where keeping true 90° is important. But it is good enough for hobby work.

@@rotarycrafts8760 Thanks for that. Tolerance in drill press is much as I thought it would be. Looking into the collets is dead easy: simply view end-on. The effect does not seem to be a viewing angle error. It really surprised me; presumably it is still there. There seems to be little chance of truing it up. So long as safety and conservatism are foremost, and conservatism - same noun - is followed, especially with load and speed, the tool is very good. As I understand it, full wattage is supplied only at full speed. Thanks again.

I think Dremel tools were safer than others , because it has the improved engineering design , but because of the high speed, we have to be better cautious .

Do you think I would be able to use a dremel to file down and polish the thrust pad of an inverted bearing on a turntable? If so how would you do it?
@rotarycrafts8760
5 ай бұрын
Well, i can't say I have any experience with that very specific task. :) But I guess you would want to achieve cut depth that is consistent across the pad to get a flat surface. If so, you could try to use something like the Dremel workstation 220 to keep the Dremel at a set depth of cut. Use it with a 1/8" shank carbide bit for metal (the sell cheap sets on amazon). But getting clean flat cuts with a Dremel can be a challenge. But I don't fully understand the task, cut depth, size, material will all factor in if it is possible or not.

Will the dremel attachments work with other brands of rotary tools? I just bought the 12v cordless Warrior tool from Harbor Freight. It has the threads like the dremel and it looks identical, but hard to know for sure from pictures and videos online

It's hard to know for sure before you've tried it. Most off brand rotary does make the threads to fit the Dremel attachments. :)

SAVE your money and buy a FOREDOM instead . By the time you end up buying 3 to 4 broken dremels youll still have the 1 Foredom (which has more power and torque ) Also DON'T waste your money on dremel bits, instead go buy the Kutzall bits ( better quality and cheaper in the long run )
@rotarycrafts8760

be aware of 5000rpm minimum. for fine hobby work this is often too much, that's where proxxon 12v (with powersupply) come in. those have analog regulation (no speed steps) and can go way below 5000rpm and won't melt plastics like dremel. use proxxon attachments on dremel, they are cheaper and metal instead of overpriced plastic. you can 3d print an adapter to make dremel fit the the proxxon attachment, M19 20mm adapter
