I’m not new to crocheting, but I’m completely new when it comes to crocheting a project from a pattern. I feel silly asking but I’m a little confused about the sizing. If I were to be making this in a size small, how many stitches would I need for the foundation CSDC? 🤔🫣
@YayForYarn
Жыл бұрын
Hi Kayla! In many patterns, the number of foundation stitches changes based on what size you are making. However, in this pattern, the number of foundation stitches is the same for all sizes. What makes the sizes different is how many times you repeat the increase rounds on the yoke. So the smaller sizes will repeat those rounds fewer times, resulting in a smaller yoke, which determines the measurements of the rest of the tee. Likewise, the larger sizes will repeat those rounds more times, resulting in a larger yoke and a larger finished tee. I hope this helps!

I like this top but could not get the hang of the chain less sts.
@YayForYarn
Жыл бұрын
Hi Annette. If you would like to make this project without the chainless stitches, you can replace them with a different technique if you like. So for the double crochet rounds, you could replace the chainless starting double crochet with a chain 3, or you could chain 1 and double crochet in the same stitch, not counting the chain 1 as a stitch. The same would apply to the other rounds. For half-double crochet rounds, you could begin with a chain 2, or you could chain 1 and half double crochet in the same stitch, not counting the chain 1 as a stitch. I hope this helps!

I cant find the sizing for how many chains to make for a large size. I clicked on the link in the description box but cant find it. How many chains do I make for a large??
@YayForYarn
2 жыл бұрын
Hi Irene. You can find the free version of the written pattern here: yayforyarn.com/driftwood-tee-crochet-pattern/ All sizes start with the same number of stitches. The different sizes are determined by how many times you repeat the increase rounds that make the yoke of the tee larger. So you'll need to start with 80 foundation single crochet or chain 81, skip the first chain (chain not counted as a stitch), and single crochet in the next 80 chains. I hope this helps!

I am working on this but can tell already it won't fit the same. I made sure my gauge was correct but the neck is much smaller than the pict. Any ideas how to change it. I am considering frogging it
@YayForYarn
3 жыл бұрын
Hi Vicky. If you began with the row of foundation single crochet, that will have more stretch to it than the regular foundation chain and row of single crochet. As you work the yoke, the neckline will smooth out and open up a little. Please keep in mind that when the tee is blocked, the fabric will open up a bit more as well. (Did you block your gauge swatch before measuring gauge? This can have an effect on the gauge measurement, so I highly recommend blocking the swatch before checking gauge.) The sample garment in the photos is shown on a petite model with narrow shoulders. The neck edge of the tee is designed to be large enough to slip over the head, but it is not quite as close-fitting as a crew neck. It is designed to sit about an inch from the side of the neck on each side, and the front neckline is designed to fall at least 1 inch below the collarbone. However, everyone is built differently, and the best way to tell how it will fit is to work through part of the yoke instructions and then try it on. If you have any more questions, please let me know. I am happy to help!

Lovely pattern! Please can you explain why it’s necessary to turn the work? I’ve just made a top down jumper and didn’t have to turn it. Thanks!
@YayForYarn
2 жыл бұрын
Hi Christine! On this project, I chose to turn the work to keep the back seamline (where you join each round) straight. This also helps the raglan section remain straight without twisting. Have you ever made a blanket of one large granny square? If you don't turn the work after each round to alternate direction, the natural slant of the crochet stitches gradually causes the square to twist, making slightly curved lines from the center to the corners instead of straight ones. Turning the work alternates the direction of the rounds and keeps everything straight and square. This may not be necessary at all for some types of top-down projects, but I found that it worked better for this one. I hope this helps!

Hi. Have you matched the pattern gauge? 80 foundation single crochet stitches will measure differently depending on your gauge. You may need to adjust your hook size to match the pattern gauge before making the project. You can learn more about gauge here: kzitem.info/news/bejne/1m6Nrn-Ja2NonaA I hope this helps!

Hi Debbie. Technically, you can use any yarn that is marked #4 Medium Weight. The main factor affecting the yarn you choose will likely be whether you want to wear it in warm weather or not. @YayForYarn
3 жыл бұрын
Hi! Even if you use the same size hook recommended in the video, everyone's stitch tension (gauge) is different. So the important thing is to use the hook size that will give you the correct size stitches for the pattern with your personal tension. I strongly recommend checking your gauge first before beginning, as this is very important to make sure the top will turn out the correct size. Here is a video on gauge: kzitem.info/news/bejne/1m6Nrn-Ja2NonaA Also, if you're using the foundation single crochet for the beginning of the yoke, this helps keep the neckline edge nice and stretchy. I hope this helps!
@kimberlyryan941
Жыл бұрын
I'm using a smaller yarn and a 4.5 hook, so 80 stitches was too small for me as well. I awkwardly added stitches until I figured out a good size, then made sure the 4 sides were even with each other, and that the hdc row would still work out. Stitching sober, I probably would have realized increasing by 8 stitches at a time would work.
@YayForYarn
Жыл бұрын
Yes, if you are working at a different gauge, you'll need to adjust all of the stitch counts to compensate for the change in gauge.

Hi Brenda! If the tee is made with a front and a back, is there a seam that joins the front and back at the shoulders? If so, that could be causing the shoulder area to be distorted. It may be stretched out of shape a bit if there are too many stitches in the seam, too close together. I would suggest trying to re-stitch the seam, with fewer stitches spread farther apart. It might also help to block the seamed area again if possible to help smooth the final seam out more. I hope this helps!
@mjperfume7907
4 жыл бұрын
Yay For Yarn thanks Brianna. What I’m going to do is undue the sleeve completely, then I’m going to make the seam from the neck shorter and I’m trying to figure out if I could make the sleeves like one of your tops instead of having the arms come out of the bottom of the sleeve but look like your sleeve in your summer tee. The pattern comes from TLyc and it’s called summer tee and it’s a very loose fitting tee. I didn’t have the same material she used, so used a sports weight and down sized my hook to a 5.

@YayForYarn
4 жыл бұрын
Hi. I don't usually recommend using a yarn that is a different thickness category than a pattern calls for. However, this type of top could be improvised to use a thinner yarn. I would suggest starting at the beginning, and then working the yoke rounds until one side of the square measures at least half of your total bust measurement. Then, follow the remaining instructions for whatever size in the pattern uses the number of yoke repeats you used. You would essentially be making a larger size than you need to compensate for the thinner yarn, but working the yoke to that point before solidifying which size you're making can help you know for sure which size to make without a bunch of extra math. I hope this helps!
