It's artichoke hearts. An artichoke is an edible flower. You boil it until the petals are soft and then you pluck off a peral dip the wide end in melted garlic butter and scrape off the soft part with your teeth. When all petals are gone there's the heart (bottom) and spikey hair (the choke) at the top that you remove with a spoon (dont eat them). Then you can dip the heart into the butter and it's so good.

As a Christian, i find the whole oblivious phrasing so funny. One time some friends and i were watching a church youth play and there was this one song, which still makes me laugh to this day, called Jesus come. Now that doesn't sound that funny, until you realise that 90% of the song was just singing 'come, Jesus, come' with harmonies, and that it was preceded by a song called 'at your feet' which repeated the words 'down on my knees' a lot. Needless to say teenage me and my friends were absolutely struggling to hold it in, i'm talking tears. Best bit was that is was written by a millenial and not some out of touch boomer.

See, a lot of this language was very intentionally sexual when it was first developed: a whole millennium ago. Sexual desire and worship are pretty closely related, so religious language sounding sexual isn't a strange thing. Even the Biblical text itself gets pretty sexual at times. It's just that super fundamentalist weirdos often seem to entirely miss the sexual imagery. Partly, I think, because people develop their own interpretations of these phrases when they are very young and haven't yet experienced adult sexual desire. Therefore, they won't see the imagery unless you point it out to them. Now, women usually point it out to each other: but since God is usually gendered male this obviously wouldn't be gay. Men tend to get weird about it.

Bc those two things were literally the same until about 5 minutes ago. In most cultures outside the West, they're still the same. When homosexuality was first classified, only the cross-gender conforming people were referred to as gay (what you'd call "trans" today). Depends on which Robin. The third Robin, known as Red Robin, or Tim Drake / Tim Wayne is believed to be around 22. But yeah, the original Robin made his first kill at 10, he had a tragic past and it made him a cold-hearted person. Batman actually took him in as an adoptive son of sorts, a potential heir. Thanks for reminding us to get your book -- a cuppa with Jaime! Just my 2 cents: I'm NOT happy with the idea of a love/sex type relationship between Batman & Robin due to the age difference & mentor/mentee power imbalances. Batman needs to get it off with Superman or someone else who's of age that he's not mentoring! Those new chess rules are AMAZING! But Bud Light's kinda gross. Can't the gays get a better beer stereotyped as "The Gay Beer"? I vote for Pansy Blue Ribbon, which is what my friend's autocorrect made out of Pabst Blue Ribbon. Some of those posts reminded me of what I sometimes call toxic masculinity invading gay discourse. Sometimes for Gay Men, more often for Bi Men, and extremely common for "Straight" Men who have s3ggs with other Men and could identify as Gay or Bi if they wanted to, have a difficult time reconciling they fact that they like Men without feeling like it invalidates their gender or masculinity. As a cope, sometimes folks treat male same-sex attraction as something to laugh at or only perform through 3 layers of irony and jokes. I think that sometimes it can be funny as a gay male myself, but I also can't help but see that accepting male same-sex desires is very painful and gets shamed. (There is also a plentiful amount of bottom-shaming, femme-shaming, twink-shaming, and even occassional romance-shaming, in some gay/bi/msm spaces, which definitely doesn't help.)

Funniest thing about the bud light boycott, they were furious at anheiser bush (owners of bud light) so they didn't just boycott bud light they boycotted all anheiser bush products, except the beer they all turned to was also owned by anheiser bush.

Batman and Robin were originally heavily read as gay, but these days every person who has been Robin (Richard Grayson, Jason Todd, Tim Drake, Stephanie Brown, and Damian Wayne) is either explicitly Bruce Wayne's kid (Richard Grayson was his ward from [8/9/10/11] to 18, Jason Todd was adopted, Tim Drake is either a ward or adopted, Stephanie dated Tim and later Cassandra Cain who is Bruce's adopted daughter, and Damian is his bio kid) so shipping them is a little incest-y

Yeah, the relationship was meant to be a close father and son thing. The modern interpretation making that relationship gay just reflects how unfortunate our modern father-som relationships actually are :/ Apparently any closeness between males HAS to be gay, instead of, you know, a caring father-son relationship.

I think this idea was mostly taken around the 60s batman tv show, they were both played by adults and it was very campy. I can understand why people thought they were gay.

I'm assuming the artichoke "bottom" is the base of the flower where the bristles are attached. An artichoke is basically a large unopened flower bud, and the leaves you eat are actually petals. Once you peel all those away, you get to the artichoke heart. The "choke" refers to the fibrous bristles on the inside, which are the parts that eventually develop into seeds, though they're usually not edible. Pull these off and you're left with the artichoke bottom, which is pretty much a plucked flower, like a dandelion once you've blown off the seeds.

In the states, we call them "artichoke hearts." It's what's left after all the leaves (petals?) are off and you scrape off the hairy part (undeveloped flower petals) and cut off the stem. It's the most flavorful, least bitter part of the artichoke. That's what they look like when fully prepped.

Sad truth is basic spelling ability rarely seems to appear in religious fanatics. 8:33 "You can't enter heaven unless Jeebus first enters you..." They... didn't think that one through very well.
