The downtown library 5:19 ! The place that changed my life back in 2001. Had 2 degrees yet was working a dead end job. Spent 2 weeks seeking answers in said library. Discovered Carl Icahn, Boone Pickens, entrepreneurship and passive income right at that library during those 2 weeks and my life was never the same again! Jackson is a rough town. For minorities especially. No good jobs, crime and tanking neighborhoods. Yet I still have awesome memories of that city. I miss the State Fair, for example!

As a kid back in the 70s and early 80s downtown was the place my grandparents took us kids to shop. Busy nice people everywhere. This is a typical Sunday.

Hello. Do you think that Jackson's population is dropping very fast? Also, I read that Mississippi is at the bottom of almost everything, ie health, education, and life. Do you agree with this statement?
@AdityaLad7

Hi, I did read on Wikipedia that the population has been on a negative slide since a few years now. I am not sure what exactly the reasons are here but you might be on point there.

You can thank the overwhelmingly democrat population for that statistic.

As a Mississippi resident, I can tell you- yes. You wouldn't believe how some people live. It's like a 3rd world country. Drugs are a huge problem, and if you are outside of a city or big town (like Oxford) and you have a medical or mental health emergency you are SCREWED. Due to poverty & corruption many small towns (including mine) have a grand total of 1 ambulance and 1 or 2 part time cops. Unless you are physically AND mentally strong and have a reliable vehicle and support system don't move here. There is almost no way to make money unless you start your own business, work remotely, or become a drug dealer. NE Mississippi has beautiful hill country though, I do recommend a visit.

I lived in Jackson for a year and it appears you chose to drive through on a Sunday morning or holiday. You should have driven down State Street instead of picking the most boring parts of the city. Yes, a good portion of downtown Jackson is nothing but governmental buildings. Many city down towns are just as boring.

The only areas really worth living in Jackson are around Eastover with The District and Highland Villiage or in Fondren. Otherwise you're better off in flowood, Brandon, ridgeland, or Madison.

Its kind of like the last scene in the movie "On the Beach." All the streets are empty because the nuclear cloud has drifted over the city from an explosion far away and killed everybody, even tho the city wasn't a target of a nuke.

Nice video highlighting how Jackson didn't bother to set up any of the car sensors for the red lights. So get used to idling at stop lights on empty streets.

Mississippi failed in so many areas, the main tourism catch in Mississippi is that it's always close to somewhere else contrarily though, when you get to other places, you never see people selling their proximity to anything in Mississippi. Mississippi is a highly failed state, in disparity
