I was wondering how I was able to drive my Camry 36 miles home with a split in the tire without it falling out of the rim. I was bored today and opened my vehicle manual pouch and the tire manual had RFT Run flat technology on the cover. Thank you BridgeStone. You save me

just drove 3761 miles on these tires across the US in 7 day, did not get a flat tire which was good, tires drive great, I didn't hit snow or alot rain ( so can't say speak for snow or heavy rain) , they are about 1/2 wear when I started the trip, so they are a bit noisy, the side wall is stiff, 235/55/18 tire on a AWD V6 2011 Toyota Rav4, over all happy with this tire if you must have a run flat tire, I was happy to KNOW if I got a flat i would make it to hotel or service station and not stuck someplace (especial in these weird times)

Huh, I didn't know these were marketed to normal people. Thought it was just a thing in APCs & military craft and the sort.

If you get a flat with one of these in snow or icy weather, would it severely effect traction and be dangerous to continue the 50 miles, at a relatively safe speed considering road conditions of course?
@MrJohnnyArcher

Thats pretty much its purpose, to get you home safely or to a service station after a flat. The run flat tire with the loss of pressure, actually will give you better traction. (in that instance) (Same principle as why Off-Roaders “Air-down” to maximixe grip and traction in mud/snow etc.)

Not really…After a puncture you can only drive up to 50mph speed. Its purpose is to get you to the service station or home safely. It is not designed for a Police chase after a Flat…lol

police helicopter flies 230mph though and radios are even faster. if they spiked you youre done, because its the last thing they do.

Don't let a flat tire slow u down stuck in glue even without air pressure run flat tires are useful for driving 55 miles an hour safely.

It said you can go 50 miles before it deflates entirely. Can you keep inflating the tire (with a portable electric pump) as needed to run an extra 50 miles (or more) without hurting the enforced sidewalls?
@bridgestonetires

@ScottMartinD We appreciate your question. Reinflating would not be recommended. Bridgestone's DriveGuard run-flat tires work up to 50 miles after a puncture up to 50 miles per hour. If you have any additional questions or concerns, please, feel free to PM us back. We value your business with Bridgestone. ^Cali

My question is, after 50 miles running flat, is the tire still reparable, given that it was reparable just after loss of pressure? Thanks.

it still depends on where the hole is. deep in a tread? plug hole. on the thick tread part? nope, its different every time.

Do spike strips puncture Run-Flats?

no
@ttinnovations3310

YES they do, lol, the side wall on these tires are stiff, that is what makes up for the air loose, its just like a normal tire, but with stiff side walls, so a nail or spike strips will puncture them
@willcal2738

spike strips are basically hollow metal spikes like needles and they let the air out, but yeah 50mph for 50 miles even if the cops are on you lmao

Bought a 2014 BMW 320I with Bridgestone run flats. I WILL NEVER BUY A CAR WITH RUN FLATS EVER, EVER AGAIN! THEY ARE NOT REPAIRABLE - THEY MUST BE REPLACED. You will not likely have a spare to switch to (the theory is that a run flat tire does not need a spare to save space and weight).If you get a flat in a small town, it is not likely they will have a replacement available so you will wait for at least a day to get it replaced. Maybe you can drive 50 miles but your car will wobble all over the road and never feels safe. When I go to buy a new car, it will be on the condition that the run flats are replaced with regular tires and that they include a spare. I don't care if it takes up most of the room in the trunk. At least I'll be able to change it and get on my way. THE ABSOLUTE WORST INVENTION EVER! And I speak from experience.

It’s just an excuse /gimmick to get rid of the spare tire and improve mpg 0.0001%. 😂
