Why every so often especially at timestamp 19:23, those Concrete blocks next to the tracks. It looks like what the overhead wires were on. And also at 15:46, why is there dual gauge on the bridge?
@driver667
Жыл бұрын
The concrete blocks are what is left from when the overhead wires ran through to Traralgon. The extra rails on the bridge are check rails to protect in case of a derailment. 👍😊

Do you know why there appears to be new track going off to the right at 16:21? Obviously they're duplicating this section into the station, but that track can't continue any further as the platform is there...
@driver667
7 ай бұрын
The track is being duplicated through the platform. The track we are on will be slewed across to the other platform to allow that extra track into the platform we ran through. 👍😀

I remember seeing the Maryvale heading in the Up direction on the high line through the grade separation gully. Do you know how it’s determined which line is used? Great video as always, keep them coming 👍
@driver667

Timetabling work out which line to run on. Generally the peak hour direction runs on the fast line. South line in bound in the morning and out bound in the evening but can change due to requirements. 👍😊

here i go againwith questions 1, what was the hissing noise? 2 why the grade separation just out of Warragul?
@xr6lad
Жыл бұрын
I believe I read somewhere that the reason that the lines are at different levels was due to the VicRail in the very early 1950's when duplicating the line attempting to reduce the grade for loaded steam-hauled briquette trains departing Warragul.
@driver667
Жыл бұрын
On number 2, xr6lad is correct. The hissing noise is the brakes being applied and released as this is on an N class locomotive hauling the train. 👍😊
@emdB67
Жыл бұрын
Original single track (later the down line, now the north line) has 1 in 50 grades both directions. The newer up / South line has a maximum of 1 in 110 for up trains, which loaded briquette trains would've faced. I had also pondered the same thing when I rode the Warragul school train behind L class locos, from Longwarry in 1981. I eventually learnt the reason.

Hi , love your videos, the T symbol trackside, something to do with signals ?
@driver667

The speed of the train is checked at the T board if there is a slower speed move (eg. diverge) ahead. If the train is too fast, the emergency brakes automatically get applied. 👍😊

When did the line from Dandenong to Leongatha close and why?
@driver667
Жыл бұрын
The line was closed from Leongatha back to koala siding (Melbourne side of Nyora) in 1993 by the Liberal government as a cost saving measure happening across the state. The freight service from koala siding ceased in 1998. 👍😊
