Great video! Thanks for going into detail for this process! We're likely going to be doing this once we get back from the states since we're staying near Jaco and Panama seems like the better choice once our next 90 days are up.

I'm glad, it was helpful! We went to the BCR bank on AVE 4 and CR 243 in Perez Zeledon to get our vehicle permit. The National Registry office is upstairs. Just tell them that you want to drive to Panama, provide them with your vehicle registration and they will issue a permit. I think it cost around $20.

@@BloggingMoneyLife Since yall went through all of the process with your car will any of that be easier for subsequent trips into Panama? Or does it all have to be redone every time?

The vehicle permit is only valid for 30 days. I believe it starts the day that it's issued. But I feel like driving across the border makes the whole process easier. Panama NEVER asked us for an onward ticket out of the country, a reason for our visit, how long we plan to stay, hotel accommodations, or proof of economic stability. All the blog posts we read going into this border run told nightmare stories about getting into Panama, but we didn't have any issues at all.

@@BloggingMoneyLife Yeah similar here, everyone I've read or even seen videos on has made Nicaragua seem like the easier spot to do a run. I think the overall issue with people doing Panama runs is they try to cross and immediately turn around and leave with the same staff there that just stamped them out. If they see you're bringing a vehicle in then they probably assume you're going to at least spend some time and money in the country.

Our thought exactly. Also bring a vehicle gives you more freedom to do and go where you want and you don’t have to worry about what could happen to it leaving it behind.

Thank you so much for all the helpful info! Hopefully we will be crossing the border with our car next month. Question about the vehicle permit: did you need to make an appointment at the bank?
@BloggingMoneyLife

Of course, I hope it helps on your Border Run. We we actually got the permit from Registro Nacional. The closest office to us at the time was located above the BCR bank in San Isidro De El General. We did not need to make an appointment. I just walked in. The document that we requested was “Permiso de salida del país de vehículo placa (your license plate number).” Here’s a link to their website. www.registronacional.go.cr/index.htm If that’s the location that you will need to go to too, Look us up on Facebook and I will send you the Waze pin that I used.

We didn’t really stay there long enough to form an opinion. We got there and checked into our hotel then it started pouring down rain and when we woke up in the morning we were ready to go home. The little that we did see was kinda unremarkable. Are you in Panama or Costa Rica? For some reason I thought you spent most of your time in Panama.

CR to Panama Help at the boarder: $15 total Permit to drive our car in Panama: $20 Insurance to drive our car in Panama: $20 Exit fees at border: $10 person Panama Hotel $75/Night Panama to CR No fees that I can remember

I love to hear that you call yourself a gringo. For 99% of the people below the USA border ,saying that you are an american is an insult and shows ignorance and ego, because anyone from Canada to Argentina is an american. AMERICA IS A CONTINENT NOT A COUNTRY.

Only Non-vaccinated travelers from or that have been through High Risk Countries in the last 15 days are required to quarantine for 72 hours (3 days). We are vaccinated so the quarantine and testing did not apply.
