Whenever I look at an American city, I'm amazed by the sheer number of national flags in the streets.

@exploreusacities 🇺🇲 A lot of young people today don't respect the American flag like in the past. American cities have increasingly gotten worse with crime by folks who disrespect our American flag.

@@rubencohen2936 Crime countrywide peaked in the 80's and 90's dude, including cities. And people dont respect the flag for good reason. Our massive corporations would rather see us dead in a ditch then pay us a decent wage, and our gov takes our money and spends it bailing out the rich and bombing people.

@@exploreusacities He doesn't know, he just making up a date. South Bend was stereotypical of Rust Belt industrial might until after the second world war when deindustrialization left much of the city a rusted out hull of its former self. Like many others the city was dependent on one large factory (Studebaker) and was economically devastated when it closed. If you want to point specifically to an event that occurred around 1980, the opening of the UP Mall in Mishawaka pretty much ended DTSB's time as a retail destination for the area, as a lot of those businesses relocated to the mall when it opened.

There was a hospital in South Bend. I forget the name of it but there was a Nursing School attached to it. I heard that the Nursing School is no longer around but let's just say that the male Notre Dame students really like those student nurses. Is the hospital still there?

use to be a lot easier to get around town before mayor buttplug turned all the one way streets to two way with tons of stop lights,no one wants to stop unless you want to get harassed by the homeless.

The point of reconfiguring the streets wasn't so you could blast through town like a bat out of hell, motorhead. It was to help make the downtown area more friendly for pedestrians and cyclists, and as someone who used to work in DTSB, can say that goal was accomplished.
