Your trip brings back memories! There was nothing in LG4 in 1973 when , as a young co-pilot on a DC 3 on skis. we flew lumber to build a cookhouse and tents for workers on the dams. At -40C, we slung out oil barrels and unloaded cargo onto the snow. I’m glad you appreciate the beauty of Northern Quebec.

Interesting! Always amazing to me in the Tiaga how lone trees will be growing in the middle of a huge rock such as along the shore. The sheer engineering of those dams is amazing - that is a lot of fill to haul in or excavate to build those dams.

I stayed at Mirage for a night , I fuelled up the jeep and the jerry fuel cans , did some laundry , and had a hot shower , and a couple meals that I didn't have to make , it was a nice refresher after living in the bush out of the 2 door for a couple weeks straight . The Hydro electric dams and all the infrastructure related to it is quite something to see , all the lookouts , it is a double edged sword though , good for some but changed some of the landscape and peoples lives forever . I thought about, and pondered these things, whilst travelling the Trans Taiga . There is another fuel stop right at the end of the Trans Taiga , at a fly in fishing place near Caniapiscau. Don't forget to visit , on the way back Mont Naappaayaakuuchii , the branch road that intersects theTrans Taiga is about 40 clicks or so outside of Mirage , just after Mirage, if heading east toward Caniapiscau just before if heading west toward the Billy Diamond . It is worth the 60 kilometre trip just for the little hilly winding two track that traverses some beautiful scenery on the way to the Mont. Cheers Wild Bill.
