Put 4:10 gear set in the rear diff, that will solve your lack of low end power problem, but you will hear the diff buzzing at 80 mph and there will be a fuel economy difference, But doing the swap is well worth it as long as you don't do lots of interstate driving, The city and country drives will be much improved.

Six years late, but you can hear and feel the revs
@dominiquestephenson195
4 жыл бұрын
Not only learn the sound of certain rpm’s but feel the rev. If u shift too soon it’ll bog and be too little power for the new gear. It may not kill on ya but it will be slow as fuck until rpms climb and not good for the motor. It’s best to shift back down a gear and build up revs. If u shift too high it’ll chirp or spin the tires possibly losing traction and definitely wear out the clutch faster. If you shift in the sweet spot of the powerband (usually 3k-4K rpm) the truck will feel strong shifting and the transition very smooth. Lots of base trim cars and trucks in the 70’s and 80’s didn’t have tachs. It’s pretty quick and natural to hear and learn your sweet zone in a new vehicle. Learning to use the clutch and gas smoothly is a little more challenging but it’s all very easy really.

Should’ve done a high flow cat, I gained 3mpg doing highflow cats, and better flowing mufflers on my blazer when I had it.

My aunt used to have a 1993 Ford Ranger back in 2005 to 2013. It was quite the truck. Then she sold it in 2013 and got a 2001 Honda Accord or I think it was 2001 Toyota Camry I probably don’t remember and now she owns a 2010 Ford Fusion. But man I miss that truck it was quite a rig. Especially the manual transmission. You just don’t find those anymore.

Most of the ones I've found are all 6cyl I don't like the 4 bangers, not enough power and torque.

Put a turbo on that 2.3 there won't be much that could catch it. They put a turboed 2.3 in mustang and it Put out more horsepower then the 5.0 v8

Can the 5 speed be adjusted in the 2000 era Rangers regular cab, short box, if the around town slow speeds seem to be a jerky experience and not like a honda or kia 5 speeds you get in a car?

I guess a vintage Ranger with a the 2.3 liter four cylinder and and a manual transmission is one way to avoid the Rangers with non-serviceable transmissions. The non-interference engine is great if the timing belt fails.

They can pull a trailer. It has a 6k lb load limit. It would pull a Civic on a trailer. People pull trailers with suvs that have no power.
