In the past the Cassiar was pretty empty, not much traffic. It wasn't uncommon to see multiple bears each day. Our personal best is 11. However last few years commercial activity has picked up. Oil and gas pipeline is planned for a natural gas pipeline running up to Rupert for instance. So the bears have moved away from the highway. Also they are renovating/cleaning up the old copper mine in Stewart so all those guys live in the man camp at Meziadin Junction and run up and down the road to get to Smithers for recreation and supply. .

Dear Adam and Kathryn, This is not a comment on this video per se although this one was great and beautiful. I've been following you for over a year, since about when you were going through Wyoming eastbound last year plus a few earlier videos. I have greatly enjoyed them and feel like I have gotten to know new friends. Interestingly enough, even though I have 40+ year of age on you I tend to think of you guys as contemporaries rather than "nice kids." I don't know if that says something about me, you, or both. I have lived a long and interesting life and don't plan on leaving anytime soon but I have realized that I don't have too many firsts or new experiences at this point. Watching you I have been able to experience a large number of firsts that I didn't expect to have and this has been a very good thing. My wife and I hope to follow at least some of your adventures and places where you have blazed the trail for us. So, a very sincere and hearty, thank you.

It really is too bad you missed the NISHGA VOLCANO ! It is about half way between Stewart to Terrace about 20 km from the hwy37. The road is a look coming back to the hwy in Terrrace. The volcano dome is a very long hike from the access road .But the lava flow is over 70 km long and in places 70 ft deep, from mountain side to mountain side. It empties into the Nass river where it killed 4500 people in minuets and buried the town of Aiyansh. There is now the town of NEW Aiyansh built up higher on the hillside. The lava flow is still fully visable with many trees and has moss growing on some of it. The area of the SUNKEN FORREST is a visual delight It looks like clumps of trees floating in islands of GIN CLEAR water. The DRONE LAWS IN CANADA ARE SIMPLE BUT " you must be CANADIAN TO FLY a drone" The desiogination of a drone is one weighing 251 grams -14 kg. So INTERNATIUONAL VISITORS BRING A MAVIC MINI2 OR MINI 3 and you can fly anywhere other than 5km around a certifies airport or in a nation or provincial park. I know IT SUCKS. CHEERS AND SAFE TRAVELS Steve h. PS ON THE WAY TO Terrace stop for the night at KITSUMKALUM LAKE it is a FREE campsite and the lake is as green as the one at the start of this video.

Finally managed to finish the video...thank you for including my Canada. All too often my Province is treated as an afterthought in the Alaska adventure videos. Also thank you for understanding that life in the north is hard and sometimes things do not end up aesthetically pleasing, yet remain surrounded by beauty. My wife and I spend a lot of time up there, know it and the people well...and we continue to return, now you understand a bit of that, eh? If you return, investigate the lower part of Northwest Territories. Do the Alberta thing up to Grand Prairie and then straight north, around Great Slave Lake and into Yellowknife. Come out via the Liard Trail and you have done numerous UNESCO World Heritage sites, as well as multiple water falls that put Niagara to shame. All the best...

Its funny how much less autumnal these areas look in comparison to Alaska and the North Pole despite you being more into autumn now! LOVED the cheeky Nandos comment - I have to confess, I've only ever visited once and was a little underwhelmed by it, but I understand it's a very British thing to do! The highlight of the video wasn't impressing me with your culture of Britain, but I thought it was going to be the shot of the bear and the 2 cubs - ADORABLE!!! 😍😍😍 BUT... you just went and blew my mind with all that footage from the bear viewing platform! Your shots were amazing, but the editing of the footage was just perfect, and I loved the music you added to the clips. Back to the mama on the road with the 2 cubs, I'm curious to know, what was the mama like around the cars? Was she chilled or was she a bit weary and aggressive? Fascinating to hear about Hyder and its reliance on Stewart. I never would have thought there'd be such freedom between the 2 countries and a crossover of facilities such as school!
@AdventuresofAplusK
Жыл бұрын
It is has been pretty wild seeing the difference in the foliage as well as the time changing for sunrise and sunset! We enjoyed the Nandos we had when we went to London before the channel. It wasn't the best ever, you're right, but it was solid. Love the sauces! There's a few in the states now too The bears were so awesome to see! We were freaking out hard! The mama and cubs didn't seem to be bothered by the cars really. They mostly scurried across the road, paused on the side we filmed them on then went off into the bushes The two towns on either side of the border and using the same facilities and schools surprised us as well!

Another great video. I haven’t driven the Cassiar yet. I’ll have to check out the fudge in Hyder. You can fly to Katmai for cheap by using Alaska Airlines stopover loophole. Fly from home to Anchorage as a stopover and then continue on to King Salmon. Book as a multi city ticket. Then take a floatplane for $300 round trip per person to Katmai and stay at the campground for $12/night. Much cheaper. And I highly recommend taking the tour to the Valley of 10,000 Smokes. You can stay for several days and not be rushed like you are on the Katmai day trips. Thanks for highlighting Canadian First Nations people and the Highway of Tears addressing the MMIWG.

Tip for the most PERFECT camp fire potatoes. Cube them or slice small ones in half. Boil them in water FIRST until you are able to pierce with a fork. Then drain... add olive oil, salt, pepper and shake real good. THEN add to your aluminum foil. And for an added bonus a dash of hot sauce over them spices them up a bit and makes an absolute TASTY potato!

My wife, kid and myself travel the USA and watch tons of traveling vodeos to get a idea of what and where we want to go. Large majority of youtube posts are kinda blah! You two did a great job!! Keep on keeping on and thanks!

Oh my goodness!! That bear footage is so freaking cool. I love it when they shake the water off. We have our trip booked for Katmai in August of 2024!!!

I'm from BC and I flew to Prince George once. You inspire me to travel up north. Do you worry about Grizzlies when out hiking in this area? Scares me!

Yes we worry, but we try to prepare with the proper knowledge and carry bear spray and that makes us feel better!

So cool! You got stunning views and your campsite at the Salmon Glacier was epic THEN you got to see not one but 2 bears doing the salmon thing. Amazing!! I love the way you set up the story too, lol. Just scenary and then bam, a bear! So glad you two got to see him.

Hey there, really enjoyed watching your Alaska adventures! Do you plan on or do you have a published list of your route/itinerary? We would really do like the route that you took it’s just we kind of got lost in tracking you using the videos. Thanks

Hi! We do plan on writing guides and itineraries for everything we did in Alaska including multiple different itinerary options based off how long you have. But those won't be published for a few months so here's the gist of our route: Denali Highway Denali National Park Talkeetna Ice Climbing at the Matanuska Glacier Chugach State Park and Anchorage Kenai Peninsula Whittier Hatcher Pass Valdez Wrangell St. Elias Hope that helps!

Beautiful scenery. I think I liked this highway more than the Alaska highway, at least as far as things to see. The view of the glacier from above was awesome, and who doesn't love watching wildlife. Welcome back to the lower 48.

It is a tough choice between the two! Both have their unique qualities. That glacier view was spectacular and the bears were so fun!
