I used to be stationed there until 1991, right before Mt Pinatubo erupted. I am half Filipino and I learned a lot about my culture while I was there. Having been raised in the US, it was a culture shock arriving at this port for the first time and I felt the excitement of being there. The memories of my experience here will forever be with me and I often look back on these days when I think of how lucky I have been to have lived here. I have been binge-watching walk/ride-throughs of Subic and Olongapo as of late and I am really enjoying them. Thanks for this video

I was in one of the last to leave. Remembered driving around at night. No vehicles. No one around. Just some Aetas walking on the side of the tarmac. Abandoned naval hospital where I used to hanged out was spooky. Just birds and monkeys screeching and chittering. Housing at Binictican, same. Golf course, same. Just the silence. No human voices. It felt lik one of those Apocalyptic movies where you're all alone.

SBFZ implements a First Stop, First Go traffic system in majority of intersections where who arrives first should go first like it should be, that's why everything flows smoothly. Note: The first stop first go system can be overriden when you see a traffic enforcer managing the traffic where they stand in the middle of the intersection. Olongapeño here (:

@@plhtla2772 blame President Quezon for his “I’d rather have a Philippines run like hell by Filipinos, than run like heaven by Americans”. He was so detached from reality.. Manila was in ruins, the entire country needed US support to rebuild, but he was too proud. Although our independence is important, looking back at what happened, we should have waited another 20 years after rebuilding before requesting the US for it, because our American friends owed it to us anyway. Another 20 years of US money, US planning and infrastructure support in rebuilding our country post WW2 would have helped us a lot. That’s how Japan got a headstart. Also, Look at Guam, Puerto Rico or American Samoa, they are fully developed. Malaysia was only independent from the British in the 1960s, and they are close to developed. Sometimes we are too proud for our own good.

cooperation, discipline, and political will!?? They all exist already. What and why, then is this not working? All around stupidity in the Filipino psyche. I'm already in the 60's. The environment of stupid choice in electing the most venal, the most corrupt and the most satanic officials has been genetically imprinted in the generations it seems. From before my birth till now, it's still the same scenario. just different faces in some and the same characters. It's almost like the Filipinos are the most politically masochistic population on this planet. Inflicting to/on ourselves the same pains and tortures as our great grandfathers and great grandmothers on themselves. And fully aware of it. That is the main reason why I left. Especially when I read the unofficial report by the Japanese government on their country case study of the Philippines. They said it is already a Basket Case. That means a failed society, a failed nation.

Unfortunately the Freeport has really gone downhill since the lockdown was imposed in March 2020. The former attractions such as Ocean Adventure have been decimated. The Harbor Point mall has lost around fifty percent of its stores and many of the restaurants in the freeport have closed. What was once a thriving community has gone, and it will take years to repair the damage done.
