my aunt used to run a bar in that town for decades, its the house on sixth and sunbury, used to be called the hawks nest, now the house is empty, spent a few days there this past week helping clean it out. never realized how big that town actually is, i was only used to her side of town. it's a very busy area and with 61 being the biggest connection it just gives that town alot of discoverability. sadly most of the houses in that town are about condemned now. but they've been trying to rebuild everything there. thanks for providing a tour to those who've never been there.

As a Shamokin native, it's torture watching an out-of-towner give a tour of the city.

Thank you for this video. But just to add a correction and some comments: Shamokin went into decline after the Second World War as US energy moved from coal to oil and this decline has continued since. At one time, before the War, it was a prosperous town with a large recreation area and pool, factories in town, and street cars. (My parents grew up there then.) At the rear and around the town is a very large pile of spent and burning coal. At least as when I lived and visited there up to 20 years ago, one had to be careful of coal holes there, as the ground opens up and there are, sometimes very large, burning holes in the ground. The old buildings and mines there are not a safe place to "explore" (as some youtube video creators have done). At least based on a few property values one sees now and the Anthracite Outdoor Adventure area, the town is perhaps seeing a few signs of recovery after more than 50 years of continuous decline.
