You are absolutely right, but many things have changed since then. There is a broad alliance (NATO) between most european contries and the US, that hopefully protects us from something similar happening again any time soon. Besides that, we are a much smaller country, so naturally we have a much smaller defence-budget. :-)

On the CSX the military always had a ride-along, sometimes mid-train or end to ensure the security of the load. I noticed this one had no EOT device (radio & flashing light), just a flag. I forget the rule on that, but I think it meant restricted speeds and only on certain tracks.

Actually modern drones are almost point and click. There is skill and a learning curve. Plus crashes. But it is not like you have to pilot an aircraft. На самом деле современные дроны почти точку и нажмите кнопку. Есть мастерство и кривая обучения. Плюс аварии. Но это не так, как вы должны пилот самолета.

Marvellous scenery and another proof that drones are great little spies. Easy to realize that a drone will approach the train and will visually lock onto a selected object and will ride along, hover around this object to take close-up sequences; down to a few inch distance. Even no RC control required during this operation. Once having finished its task it will automatically return to its take-off GPS coordinate and the user will receive lots of fine data about the selected object.

Steve, another great AND daring video!! First, how do you hear about these special trains coming thru? Is there a site showing the UP consists? I am wondering if these military trucks, tanks etc are those which were sent down to the burn areas in Santa Barbara and Montecito? On TV, the equipment they showed looked somewhat like the ones on the flat cars in your video. One day i need to drive up from Atascadero and take you to lunch so i can bend your ear regarding how you can get video signals so far away? What sort of drone/equipment you presently have etc. i have a Phantom 4 but cant get video very far away! Thumbs UP!

Very impressive shooting! Using the bend in the track, and the long length of the train really gives the illusion of an incredible distance flown. I realize the extent of the flight distance is limited to the span from around where the loop comes in at it's very closest point, just passed that facility at 0:08, and the flight path crosses the trestle (which is actually adjacent to that same facility), and the only real span flown then reaches to the park at the edge of town, then you double back. It REALLY looks like a much longer flight! Great use (and reuse) of the terrain and scenery, with the long train length, to give the feeling of such a long distance covered!

Simple, yet great video editing and great flying as well! Good choice of music too! What a beautiful sight to see - all that equipment! Tax dollars well spent!!

This video is so right in so many ways and so wrong in many other completely unrelated ways. Awesome footage. I have subscribed.

great reverse flying while keeping frame. love the decision when you lost speed and frame with the lead train to loose it and home in for a tight side head on @ 2:15. You got lucky @ 2:45 with those lines. safe flying! great footage!
