DRONFIELD ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: - 8:11 Please excuse the lack of the word "alterations"...for some reason the editor cut that bit off. I have no idea why! - Wreakes Lane is pronounced Wrakes Lane by the locals and not Wreeks Lane

Thank you for this good showcase of my home town! Sheffield F.C. moved to Dronfield in 2001. Before then it was the home of Norton Woodseats F.C. which was dissolved in 1999. The war memorial used to be beside the White Swan on Chesterfield Road. Unfortunately, on Remembrance Sunday, there wasn´t enough space for everyone to gather around it. It´s in a much more suitable location now. I´m pleased that it is now regarded as a town which offers a good quality of life. In my day, the foundries on the main road belched out lots of acrid smoke and pollution. We kids often suffered from lung conditions and "graveyard" coughs.

I've been enjoying these videos. I wonder if the BFI are interested in archiving these videos for people to see in the centuries to come!

So Sheffield FC was the first ever football club? What was the point of that...who would they have played against 😁

Its a legit question. The answer is...themselves! Many football clubs were formed for workers during the Industrial Revolution. Professions such as miners, dock workers, steelworkers - that sort of thing - needed some form of recreation. This is why a lot of clubs further down the pyramid still have obvious ties to how they were founded. For example, Nostell Miners Welfare in Wakefield (based in Crofton). Think of football back then as like tennis clubs are today. If you're a member of a club, you're most likely going to play against other members most of the time. Football's rules weren't standardised either, so a lot of the time the games varied depending on which club you were talking about. The "Sheffield Rules" were the first known standardised rules of the game, and of course all this was before the various competitions we know today were invented - including the FA Cup. And of course, it was only in the 1880s that the Football League became a thing.

"Its prosperity was short-lived. Its site had limitations that could not compete with low-cost coastal locations, and in 1883 production to Workington in Cumbria. 'Dronnies', as the people of Workington called the newcomers, formed Workington AFC in 1888" in the description: think there's a word missing - moved to Workington - and you don't need the comma!
