Hello Amazing work ! Can i ask you where you bought your igbt ? Infineon FF450 if im am not mistaken ?
@felixb.1756
Жыл бұрын
Thank you! I got it off ebay for around 20$ if I remember correctly. If you want to buy some cheap bricks the best thing to do is just search for igbt brick every day on ebay for a couple minutes and someday you'll find a very nice offer.

Hi! Great video, I’m just curious, have you tried out UD+? I was looking at my pile of unassembled UD2.7 boards the other day and thinking freewheeling ocd would be cool. Cheers!

Thanks! Yeah on my large MonsterDR(>3m tall) I use the UD+ with freewheeling at 2kA and up to 2ms (haven't tried more yet). It works amazing and spits out over 5m long arcs.

This coil and driving mode would deliver quite a jolt if 2 meter spark hits you. It won't electrocute though
@felixb.1756

Well I'm not really sure. I measured the secondary current and at hevy groundstrikes it goes up to over 8 amps so I think it would probably kill you.
@imeprezime1285
3 жыл бұрын
@@felixb.1756 It's not a low frequency to be sure it would be fatal, but still dangerous. How and where did you measure secondary current during strike, in the bottom of the secondary ground or?
@felixb.1756
3 жыл бұрын
@@imeprezime1285 yes I measured it at the bottom of the secondary to ground. I'm pretty sure that because of the relativly low on times it acts more like lower freq pulsating dc instead of HF.
@imeprezime1285
3 жыл бұрын
@@felixb.1756 I don't think you can extrapolate much based on such measurements becouse currents in the hit objects are of different shape and time scales. But I do agree that powerful impulsive discharge from the secondary can be dangerous. More so, when big top toroids are involved
@felixb.1756

@@imeprezime1285 I have a battery powered oscilloscope I can probably measure the current at the breakoutpoint. Well theoretically it should be the same as the current at the base but there probably is some weird stuff going on at the topload.

The coil draws about 3kW (around 5kVA probably) but only for like 5minutes a week or something so it doesn't account for much.
