I have a feeling that the next version of wildshape is going to use pre made stat blocks as a base but might allow the player to use creature statblocks as an option rule.

@@JonathanMandrake build a beast options with a few base stat blocks and moon will give you access to things to add on like the wolves bite and knock prone but scales with your wisdom mod and does not have to be stuck at a sad 11 for higher lv of play

Alternative: 1) Circle of the Stars 2) Activate your stand 3) Enjoy tons of healing, bonus action longbow attacks or improved concentration while you cast your druid spells and spam guiding bolt

Spores, Stars, and Wildfire use Wildshape for their subclass features. for these subclasses, unlimited uses is probably BETTER than for Moon, because they can't short rest with the alternate uses up. For Stars, this is effectively permanent resistance to bludgeoning, piercing and slashing, and a choice of other goodies. For Spores, its 80 temp hp as an action with no resource cost, plus some bonus damage on melee weapon attacks. Just being a bird that cast spells with no indication where the spell effects is coming from is very potent on it's own.

Spores can activate Symbiotic Entity and get the 80 temp HP, then wild shape into a giant eagle and fly around casting spells while having an additional 80 HP buffer in case someone fireballs your bird form. They can get hit for 100 damage and still be cruising around as a giant eagle.

Fun fact about Wild Companion: It actually synergizes pretty will with Circle of the Shepherd. Makes your Familiar just a little but chonkier.

I feel like you are way underselling the usefulness of control flames. Doubling the range a torch (40 ft > 80 ft) or lantern (60 ft > 120ft) illuminates is freaking huge. One fight where the GM makes use of enemies hiding out of dark vision range and you’ll wish you had this spell.

The thing that makes Magic Stone cool is that you can use it with a sling, meaning you can make a ranged spell attack using a ranged weapon, thus you can (probably, depending on the table) use Sneak Attack with a spell attack. Obviously there's nothing wrong with a dexterity focused rogue, but if you want to, you can make a rogue that uses literally any mental ability score (since this spell is on the Druid, Warlock, and Artificer list) instead. It really opens it up.

Have you seen Treantmonks rework for the moon druid. Id like the see anything that references a CR rating or to look in the monster manual changed (wildshape, polymorph, conjure animals etc). There should be no reason for players to read the MM

Magic Stone is a lot better than you give it credit. It has 2x the range of produce flame, is a better damage type, and the stones can be given to other creatures. The damage is also better than produce flame until level 5. Even then, I'd say Magic Stone is all-around better until you hit that 3rd cantrip scaling point.

just love how people get scared of moon druid or just wildshape in general but it clearly says only beasts they have seen. just make leaning new beasts part of the adventure and on top of that for those scared of conjure animals... just read how the spell works. the dm chooses the creature. period. simular to summon elementals there are requirements to do this like how big the source is to summon it from

Counterpoint to your dismissal of control flames: grab a bullseye lantern and use control flames to double the area of light it creates. This creates a cone of light you can shine on enemies while in a dark place, illuminating them while keeping your party hidden in the dark. Automatic advantage for you, disadvantage for them. Situational, but if you know you’re going to be in dungeons or underground a lot, very useful.

Played more than one 20th level druid and it realy depends on your gm how powerfull it is. Not in the sense 'what does the DM allow' but 'how does the DM design the encounters'. In every encounter, I was practically immortal if the DM didn't single me out over the course of the whole battle. Especially as a Shepherd druid it lead to quite the frustration for my DM. Without an anti-magic field I was just unstopable, could heal most of the party by 20hp every turn for minimal investment, etc. and my DM mostly just couldn't do anything about it. The other full caster in my party was quite frustrated that he was the only one getting counterspelled 90% of the time. At that level of play counterspell is just incredibly common and as I couldn't be counterspelled most of the time...poor sod became crippled simply due to my existence. So, for me Archdruid is one the strongest capstones in the game.

Couldn't Absorb Element work on the spell Thorn Whip since it says melee attack instead of melee weapon attack? That would increase the range at which you attack creatures since it is at max 30ft.

Burrow speed can be increased with spells like long strider, ashardalons stride, kinetic joint, zephyr strike, and haste/potion of speed to get an even better burrowing speed and play whack a mole with your enemies.

What makes the capstone ability so dangerous is that it ignores the components. This isn't just dangerous for moon druids but all druids. Because most druid spells do not have a identifiable point of origin. A druid can kill many types of creatures because the enemy can't identify where the spells are coming from. Why did the room where enemies are holding their secret meeting suddenly combust. Why did a maelstrom suddenly appear beneath enemy ships. When any druid reaches this level it makes them the most lethal explorers in the game in all terrains and in multiple planes of existence. It would take outrageous meta work to discover that the ally cat or the crow is the source of the strange weather lately. And furthermore the spells that druids get can be absurdly large in scale. Like sleet storm, plant growth, call lightning, spike growth, and these just aren't easy to escape for any creature.

Druidcraft sucks, I just take shape water, create bonfire, or mold earth instead.
