Because it's counting in 12/8 or compound common time. If you take 4/4 and give each beat 3 eight note subdivisions, that comes to 12 beats of eighth notes or 12/8 and that's why the metronome sounds so fast. 12/8 and 6/8 sound similar because they've both got a triplet feel. However there's 12 counts in 12/8 and six counts in 6/8 = Easy!!!

@hbk1995 Because it's counting 1,2,3,4,5,6. Rather than 1,2,3,4. So you've 2 extra counts to add in each bar in the same time which means the counts would be a bit faster per bar. If you get me. My Explaining is terrible.

I would call this 12/8 myself. 12/8 is also called Compound Common Time and it's what 99.9% percent of all blues/rock shuffles are. The best way to work out a time signature, is to count. 12/8 is 123456789101112, 123456789101112, 123456789101112 etc 6/8 is 123456, 123456, 123456, 123456, 123456, etc etc etc... Bitches Crystal by ELP is 6/8 and so is Whipping Post by the Allman Brothers. Whipping post also has an 11/8 intro which is interesting...
