"The Mountain" is in my all-time top 10 of favourite records. Perfect from beginning to end. All those crazy ideas, solos etc. But always not for the sake of it or just "because we can", but it always makes sense.

Agreed. All their albums are good-to-great, but _The Mountain_ is a career-making masterpiece.

As you’re a new Rush fan that appreciates the back stage antics and snags happening before and leading up to a huge performance. If you ever decide to livestream (remember our time zones), you’d really enjoy Rush’s final gig of 70+ shows, after Neil’s return from personal tragedy. It’s their South American leg, including Rio. Super-enjoyable. kzitem.info/news/bejne/uZeuzHqQkIKFa3o

His amp!!!! 👈👈👌👌 Ray is unbelievable with odd times and complexity. His songs are like fighting the final boss every-time. I recommend The album Vector, The song (Veil)

You should react to Alex Rudinger playing “Nil by Mouth”. It is a haken song, composed originally by Ray. It’s the craziest drumming in any song I know, and Alex slayed this cover.

The drums are not as loud in the original recordings, he has a unique way of following progressive style vocal patterns. It’s easier to follow if the percussion is a lower studio volume.

You gotta check on Jay Postones playing "Nocturne". He's the drummer for Tesseract. It's mindblowing.

Really suggest checking out recent drum playthroughs from Aaron Stechauner. He did some a few months ago from his band 'Interloper' and you can see his development as a drummer really well in this one (the development from Rings to the stuff he's doing now)

While Gavin Harrison is consistently our best drummer, Ray is consistently the most exciting with his compositions. On first listen they often make no sense, and it's because of this that repeat listens to Haken albums are such good fun, cause you always discover something new in the rhythm section!

Love this band. Haken has been around for a while. Thanks to the internet we can all enjoy them. Ray Hearne to me falls into the technical category, which in my mind you have to be to play prog. This band plays ALOT of odd time signatures. Andrew check out the song Nil by Mouth from Haken. It's an instrumental. Very cool

yeah, this one didn't do it for me. In fact, I didn't hear anything a veteran drummer couldn't do in a few takes. I also didn't like the sound of the kit and thought he looked stupid with his mouth constantly agape like he was trying to trap flies. Regardless, have a thumbs up.
@OldManBadly

I sort of got the same feeling on this one, complicated to be complicated, and the kit does sound as thin as it gets. Everything seems to be tuned into a very tight group, with little range on the toms or in the selection of cymbals. It's interesting in some ways, but just seems to be trying ever so slightly too hard to be prog.

Yeah, I’m a huge haken fan but this is probably one of their weakest songs I’ve ever heard, at least for drums anyway. Sounds like they’re trying to make an Imagine Dragons song with this one lol.
