Nice deconstruction of his playing once again! I actually once had a semi-drunk chat with the guy, where he told me that he likes to play lots of heel toe for the newer, more technical Fetus songs, and goes "old school" with single strokes for the older songs, just to retain that old school vibe in playing for himself too.

Hi martyn, first of all congratulations for your hard work explaining all details of drummers techniques. i think that the real key of the question when you learn to play doubles is to set the sensitivity (threshold) of the trigger. you must be very accurate to make sound doubles when you really want it. And not to sound doubles when you want to play singles (missfire) . The settings on trigger module, the tension of the head, and pedal settings are as important as the technique you are using. Best regards from canary islands and a big hug

Is there any chance you could take a look at my friend Jimmy Pino's drumming? Personally I think he's a beast behind the kit, and he's a really technical drummer so I feel like you'd have a good time watching it and taking a look at his techniques. He's in two bands and has drum cams in both bands for various songs: Signs of the Swarm and The Hopewell Furnace. I'd recommend his drum cam for Cowards Deathbed by Signs or his drum cam for Coffin Notice Pt. II by Hopewell (Although the drum cam for the ladder option is kinda cooler because he has a bag over his head and he can't see, but they're both amazing either way).

I am pretty blasted by how precise this guy uses his heel-toe technique at such a speed. And I love the way he transitions from one technique to the other flawlessly. But I have two questions: 1. Does he use three techniques to make certain muscle groups regenerate in between? 2. When he plays blast beats you can see that he pulls his left elbow out and upwards. That feels kinda odd to me as he must create a lot of tension in his triceps and biceps. Is there any reason to do so? I always try to keep my arms close to my sides and relax them as much as possible.
