I'm glad you liked the song, too. I was worried, I suffer from age-related disturbances ;-) There are quite a lot of people who thought this album sucks. One of them always calls the band garage-band, others complain that the band should no longer call itself YES in this lineup (it was also an outrage that Squire and White just died without asking the fans beforehand). I think, no matter what the line-up is and what the band's name is:; as long as they can write such songs they are welcome. The album doesn't have that level all the time, but apart from 2-3 "slips" it's really good (for my taste)

Hi L33. I've watched all your Yes Saturdays since the day you started with them. Please cover some more of their live stuff from Yessongs or Keys to Ascension. Can I also recommend revisiting Ritual from the "Songs from Tsongas " DVD Chris performs some great bass rifts and he and Jon get involved with the percussion section. There is also some automated floating drums that Alan controls along with his own kit. I think you'll love it.

Don't know if you're aware, Lee, but when Chris got sick and knew he wouldn't be able to continue with Yes, Billy was Squire's handpicked successor, so he's Squire-approved! They'd worked together for years, and Sherwood was actually an official member of Yes for two albums in the late 90s (including, ironically, "Open Your Eyes") but as a second guitarist behind Howe, not a bassist.

I’m not completely on board with Jon Davison’s vocals or lyrics, but the rest of the band is in fine form. Billy is the real anchor of the band in my opinion. Also - Open Your Eyes is a great album. Quite different from some of their other albums. It is essentially a Chris Squire/Billy Sherwood album that was reworked to be a full YES album.

This actually the best song on the album. It has some really good passages and new sounds while still channeling some of the old Yes feel and energy. I struggle to like Jon Davison's singing especially when he goes high and miss the vocal harmonies which leaves Steve Howe's voice too prominent. Overall, it's not too bad but still rather insipid compared to their heyday.

Well, a couple of things. Chris said that Yes should go on like a symphony orchestra concept, where people come and go but the group goes on. It's new but there's traces of the old and they're going back prog. Uncovering new Yes music, as Steve said in his acceptance speech. BTW check out what Rick said. Also, for you musically, checking out Ellen Plays Bass might be fruitful. Get back beating skin, Man!

Open Your Eyes isn't very good. In my opinion, Mirror to the Sky is the best piece of music that this current group of musicians has put out. Ice Bridge is also worthy of consideration. It in no way though makes up for the utter crap that they've put out, beginning with Heaven & Earth, which I think is their worst album by far, and am shocked that some YES fans actually like it. The song and album as a whole are decent musically but it's the weak lyrics and vocals that turned me off. The music grew on me a bit after repeated listens but I knew from the first listen that the lyrics weren't the right fit...kind of amateurish. It's nothing against Jon Davison, by the way, who is absolutely a nice guy and a strong rhythm guitarist. I definitely enjoyed his work with Glass Hammer but I don't think he's a great fit for a band like Yes who've always been known for a certain level of artistry...even in the poppier '80s & '90s years.
