I'll make it short and sweet. If you are looking for performance get the biggest oiled filter that exists. If you are looking for engine longevity get the best and biggest dry filter that exists for your vehicle. Oiled filters have larger perforations, allowing more air, and thus performance, but at the cost of allowing fine dust particles through. Paper, a GOOD quality paper filter (WIX, Purolator), has tiny perforations preventing or "restricting" air flow, resulting in a very slightly diminished performance, but improved air filtration of finer dust particles with respect to oiled. For all you pro oil filters people. Yeah, at first your going to "potentially" notice better performance, and improved fuel econ; however, in time, you are going to lose all of it at at substantial significance secondary to the wear from those fine dust particles over the years from all those fine dust particles wearing out the rings and cylinders. I F'ed up and installed a K&N and cleaned and reoiled it at every other oil change. The performance and fuel econ on that vehicle vs my other vehicle that just used a quality dry filter is remarkable to say the least (over the years). I will be honest here, I would never, and I mean never, install another oiled filter on any of my vehicles again. Hey, do what you like, it's your ride, I am just shedding some light on the matter. Oh, if you need real clarification, look up Project Farm and his testing on such filters. A definite watch before considering an oiled filter for sure.

Eddie I have a tekeda dry filter, bought the k&n oil kit before realizing my filter was dry, I used the detergent and rinse and dried, I would imagine it will deteriorate the cotton over time but time will tell, my sri was only about $260. A lot cheaper then k&n but I can always use my tube with different filter, thinking about running the $20 spectre filter from pep boys to see the difference

Compressed air blows holes in the cotton gauze which would allow dirt particles to pass through, as well as disturbing the thickness of the cotton so that the filtering surface is no longer uniform and consistent.🇺🇸

Garner R Buckley III We never saw a notification with a response to this post. However, we will clear up the air on this for all. (pun intended) S&B does not offer an aerosol oil can nor do we offer that product. We welcome anyone to find on our site where we sell an aerosol oil can from S&B. Using a non S&B cleaner and oil will put a user in grounds for voiding their warranty on the S&B product. Likewise it is highly encouraged to NOT use them and only use S&B oils for S&B products. There is some truth in Jeff G statement. Good find! S&B had a run of aerosol can products almost four years ago but NO LONGER OFFER them. Any site offering such a product is not up to date or are pulling very old stock. Use the Precision II cleaning & oiling kit from S&B. That is what we offer to apply oil to S&B filters. See link: www.thoroughbreddiesel.com/S&B/cleaning-kit.htm

That varies so much based on the conditions that your driving in. Which is one reason we really like the clear Plexiglas lid that S&B uses. It allows you to easily see an monitor the filter so you will see when to clean it.

With my 08 6.7 CTD running a stock replacement filter I ran into the issue of the turbo sucking the oil out of the filter in less than a month, and it would also pull the filter minder down. Nick K Tripping the filter minder could be caused by high boost situations like towing heavy with the filter over oiled. Are you running through the oil on your drop in KN after you oil it or did you have that problem right out of the box. The turbo face is going to be oily because of the crankcase ventilation system as well.
@n0nc0mpliant
9 жыл бұрын
My ccv is vented out, the filter was deleted. Right out of the box the filter was going though oil. I only used the filter for about a month and went to a wix filter. I haven't pulled anything during that time but running att on the minimaxx I'm pulling 42psi of boost on a stock turbo.
@thoroughbreddiesel

Nick K I would clean the KN filter well and lightly re-oil it. Try that and see where that gets you. Possible that the filter was over oiled from the start?
